Hans Blix has finally said something to Iraq about their OBVIOUS lies and glaring gaps in their weapons declarations. He warns them that Iraq needs to give more evidence or face war. I was beginning to wonder if Blix was going to pressure Iraq or not. I seriously doubt…
The New York Times has a piece on how the US is willing to talk with North Korea over the escalating crisis.
I’m torn on this one. On one side, I think the US is sending a really bad message to the world that if you threaten us with nukes, we’ll back down. A message that we can be blackmailed. This could set a very dangerous precedent for the future, especially with nations like Pakistan, Iran and Iraq. The whole time of this crisis, we’ve been backing down from what we’ve been saying. At first, it was the suspension of oil shipments. Then it was the possibility of sanctions. OK, no sanctions, but no discussions. Now it’s discussions, but no negotiations. We keep backing down in the face of a loon with some nukes to play with. This is very bad.
On the other hand, I do NOT want to see the ultimate mistake made by North Korea. If they get antsy enough (and they could because their leader is friggin’ crackpot), they could launch a nuke. To me, L’il Kim (© Rachel Lucas) is the international scene’s spoiled brat of the schoolyard. If the world isn’t paying him enough attention or doing what he wants, then he threatens to make the “playground” miserable for everyone. The guy’s a loonie. Because of that, I don’t trust him at ALL with nukes. At least with Russia, you knew they were logical - that they also valued a safe world to live in. So I was never really worried that we would end up in WWIII with them. North Korea is another story.
I think Bush isn’t doing a very good job with North Korea. In my opinion, I think North Korea is the bigger threat right now. I still believe Iraq is a big threat, but not as imminent as North Korea. One other thing that’s disheartening is that the rest of the world seems content to leave their condemnation of North Korea to a head shake and a tsk tsk. I think many of them WANT to see what the US will do. If the US capitulates to the NKs, then the world won’t do jack squat. If we show some backbone, then I think they will as well.
Wow! It seems there’s another browser that could do some serious butt-kicking whenever it gets in the market. It’s called XWEBS and was written by a 16 year old student in Ireland named Adnan Osmani. His browser is only 780,000 lines of code, but has features like access to…

There will be some design changes going on for the next little while. I’m experimenting with lots of different things, so the site could look like complete crap every now and then. Just ignore it and concentrate on all the amazingly excellent writing and links… mmmk?
These days, all you ever hear about the Crusades was that they were horrible acts led by an Imperialist Europe on a peaceful, innocent Muslim people. Nothing could be further from the truth. Both Christian AND Muslim historians paint a much different picture. David Sims gives a brief overview…
I received this in an email from a friend. It is an interesting test that only takes a few minutes to take. My score was a 43. Dr. Phil (whoever that is) gave this test on Oprah. She got a 38. Some folks pay a lot of money…
Rob Galbraith put together a benchmark test involving two PCs and two Macs. The test dealt with batch processing RAW digital photos. In most of the tests, the top-of-the-line PowerMac was soundly thumped by a 3+ GHz PC laptop. It’s not really a surprise for me, since the Motorola…
You could’ve knocked me down with a feather, but the New York Times has an op-ed piece that gives the OBVIOUS reasons why Americans don’t seem to buy the Dem’s arguments against Republican tax cuts. It is a well written, easy-to-follow piece that rings true. The logic behind the…
Garret at dangerousmeta! linked to an article yesterday that got my blood boiling. It was an attempt at defining my generation (Gen X) as apathetic. What got me upset wasn’t the foundational point (I think we ARE apathetic), but that it limited the apathy to only our generation,…
Ray Garraud links to a CNET article that lists the different cell phone models and the amount of radiation the phone gives off in both analog and digital. Unfortunately, my Motorola ST7868W is one of the worst phones in the US market. Fortunately, I rarely use it. In…
