2010 World Cup

So the 2010 World Cup is over now and Spain are the champions. I was rooting for the Netherlands, but Spain are a deserving champion.
This World Cup had some great matches that I saw: USA v Slovenia, USA v Algeria, USA v Ghana, Brazil v Netherlands, Slovakia v Italy. Overall I watched 17 matches, which is a new record for me. Despite the horrible officiating which actually affected the results of matches a couple of times, and the annoying as hell, ever-present vuvuzelas, the games went well.
I think FIFA really should relook at using technology to help manage a match. For instance, the English goal in the England v Germany game was so freaking obvious that a 90 year old grandma could’ve seen it, yet it was missed by the ref. In instances like that, cameras would’ve solved the issue quickly.
There should also be quick use of instant replay. The refs screwed up so many times on offsides and disallowed goals. Within seconds of the incorrect call, millions of people could see whether it was a good or bad call. They always showed it on instant replay. Whenever the call is questionable and a goal is involved, they should fall back on instant replay to confirm or overturn a call. This would’ve helped in both the USA v Slovenia and Mexico v Argentina games for example.
Overall though, this was an entertaining World Cup to watch. The final was a bit boring and both sides had more actors than a soap opera, but Spain played better than the Netherlands.
