I’m glad this old buck is protected. There are some hunters around here that would give away all they own just to be able to take a shot at him. I’m sure there are hunters all over the place that would do the same.
He’s a 50-60 point white-tail buck! That’s awe-inspiring. Even if I was a hunter and saw this buck in the wild, I don’t think I’d shoot it. It’s lived too long to shoot.
That sounds more like a respectable hunter. I like that comment. I personally have many sets of antlers, and they all bring back fond memories of time spent in the wilderness I love dearly. I can’t bring myself to sell, cut or damage any of my ‘trophies’ no matter how small or common they are. I’m a traditionalist, that is i hunt with all wood bows I built myself, and every animal is special.I respect every magnifisant creature I harvest. No part of any animal I kill is wasted.
I make mostly longbows of hickory and osage, or bowdarc as we call it.
There are plenty of talented custom bowyers out there: but their work is often expensive. I would suggest a Bear or a Ben Pearson. You should check at your local archery shop to figure out the best draw weight for you. Check out threeriversarchery.com (You may have to search ‘three rivers archery’ to find it. I can’t remember if that is the correct adress or not.
I’ve got to go now. It’s been nice talking!
My the testosterone runs rampid. Reading all of the above comments makes me wonder about hunters and their egos, but I am not a hunter, so who am I to talk.
I came upon this site, as I recently purchased Goliath, and was doing some back ground research on him. Apparently Goliath died of old age in Dec. 2004. My local taxidermist obtained him somehow. I was shopping for an unusual animal head for a X-mas present for my husband. Goliath’s head with massive antler rack is now in our Master bedroom on a wall with a vaulted ceiling. He is quite the interesting and beautiful animal. A great conversation piece
Good luck to you all in finiding your own Goliath in the wilderness.
to“Cory”. You are a disgrace to all hunters that acually hunt for their deer. You are just afraid of the bush and you are poorsport. Don’t argue with me that you are not a peson that want’s to hunt because it sure sounds like it. I supose you kill anything else in your way
too, with your “retarted” truck of yours. I supose you have drove over a few skunks and ate them, haven’t you! Oh ya, don’t forget those people you drove over and you probabaly ate them too and never said anything about it. See ya i’m 13 and your way over the hill!! HA HA
listen, redneck folk. goliath was in my family, i am the neice of rod and diane miller. from someone who knew goliath firsthand, i assure you, you would not hit him with your truck. he would hit you. and anyone redneck enough to say something like that, dosent deserve to be called an outdoorsman. its pathetic.
Just let this deer be. Just because he’s old doesn’t mean you have go out and shoot him. Sure he was a nice rack but let him live. I am a hunter and i have seen some nice bucks in my hunting career but just let him be. He hasn’t hurt any of you guys. I bet most of the drunks would go after him with their trucks or take as many shots as they could to kill him. Just let him live until he’s ready to leave us.
If Goliath were a wild buck, and it was a sure-thing you’d get millions of dollars in endorsements, then I can see how you’d want to bring this big guy down. Hell, I’d be tempted to bring him down then!
I’d still feel bad about bringing a one-of-a-kind buck down like this though. Because of that, I’d probably keep the rack and have it prominently placed somewhere in my new home so I’d remember where my money came from.
