I recently started my second year of bowling in a league. Before I started league bowling, I threw a house ball with a straight shot. Our whole family went bowling one time, and my dad showed me how to bowl “fingertip”, or with a curve. Before I started bowling fingertip, my average was about 135, and my best game ever was 197. When I bowled my very first fingertip game with my dad’s ball, I bowled a 173.
I eventually got my own ball, which is a deep blue Brunswick Speed Zone. It’s a nice ball with a gentle curve on it. The very first game I bowled with it was a 254. That still ranks as one of my five best games ever. I bowled with it on both dry and oily conditions. It’s not very good in oily conditions, as it just slides into the pocket, which tends to leave side pins standing. In dryer conditions, it’s perfect. It has a nice line which drives into the pocket and makes it easier to strike. I’ve thrown 11 strikes in a row with it.
The other day, my dad gave me a bowling ball that he never uses. It’s a red Storm Trauma ER, which is a $225 ball. It has a much more aggressive curve than my Speed Zone. The chart on the left shows the difference between them. I had to get the ball redrilled to fit my hand span, so I was only able to start bowling with it last night. It was amazing to watch this ball in action. I wouldn’t throw it any harder or spin it more than my other ball, but it would scream back into the pocket and destroy the pins. My first game was a 201, which I followed up with a 235. Then I crapped out BIG TIME and bowled a 134. Jeez.
Anyway, I really like this new ball. I think it will become my main ball, and I’ll use the Speed Zone in dry conditions only.
Chris,
You’re really starting to scare me!
