A New Weblog Format

There’s a movement to create a new, vendor independent Weblog format called Echo or Pie (they’re still working out a name).  It’s goals are

• 100% vendor neutral
• Implemented by everybody
• Freely extensible by anybody
• Cleanly and thoroughly specified

There’s a large group of developers, bloggers and tech gurus who are supporting it already.  It looks like it will become a reality soon.  They’ve come up with a five-step roadmap and are already on the second step, which is creating the syntax.

I think this is a great idea.  This would make it easier for people to create their own blogware that can share any and all information with other existing blogware.  It would also make it easy to switch from one blogware to another.  Plus (and this is the big plus), none of this would be controlled by any one vendor.
