I thought I’d share this picture I found over on NASA’s Web site. It’s a picture of a volcano erupting with the Aurora Borealis in the sky above. I would LOVE to be at the right place at the right time to be able to see this in real life.
I’ve been to Kilauea volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii several times. I’ve been close enough to flowing lava to throw coins in it and pee on it (don’t ask… it’s a guy thing). I’ve watched the lava flow into the ocean and form brand new black sand beaches. It’s amazing. But, I’ve never seen the Northern Lights.
A few years ago, when I lived in Germany, some friends of mine saw the Northern Lights. They said it looked like the whole sky was on fire. The police station received several phone calls from concerned people expecting the end of the world. Unfortunately, all this took place about 15 or 20 minutes after I had gone to bed, so I didn’t notice any of it. =[
Someday, I hope to be able to see them. I think it’s be great to take a cruise up through Alaska and see them up there. Who knows… it could happen!
