Well, I had to bite the bullet the other day and buy the Adobe Design Collection. It comes with Adobe InDesign (I will be using this for the few print projects I do), Photoshop (I will use this ALL the time), Illustrator (At first I didn’t think I’d be using this but I could be wrong…) and Acrobat (I will be using this ALL the time too). And for a grand, it’s a steal.
I need InDesign for a print job I’m doing right now. It won’t be a one time use thing either. This job will most likely lead into other print jobs, so InDesign is a good investment. I like it a LOT better than Quark. It’s much easier to use and has more features.
I was thinking the lame duck of the bunch was Illustrator, but the more I read up on it, the more I’m getting excited about it. It seems like it might be able to take the place of Macromedia Fireworks, which is what I did most of my Web design in before OS X. It has awesome drawing capabilities and even has some pretty advanced features like data-driven graphics using any ODBC-compliant database or XML. Cool. I’ll post more about the apps tomorrow after I get them.
