I received my software yesterday. When I opened the box, it was weird realizing I spent a grand on the relatively small box in my hands. Installation was a breeze, no problems, no hiccups. I also downloaded the updates for Photoshop and Illustrator. They fix some performance issues as well as a few other bugs in the initial releases. So…
Photoshop is awesome, as I expected. I’m already using it quite a bit, and I haven’t even started messing with the pictures for the print project. The last time I used Photoshop was when it was version 5.5. It’s improved a lot since then. I first learned Photoshop when it was version 2.5, and it’s not even the same program now! I like the integration between Photoshop and ImageReady. ImageReady is VERY similar to Fireworks in the way it allows you to preview optimized images before saving them. That’s a big plus.
InDesign is amazing as well. Nothing Earth-shattering, but very easy to use. I’ve already finished the CI in the print project. If I get many more print jobs in, I’ll be very happy to have InDesign in my arsenal.
Acrobat is very handy to have because I have a lot of PDF documents. A lot of my friends send newsletters in PDF. I’ve downloaded many government documents in PDF. So it’s nice to be able to select the text with formatting, and use it in other apps. I’ve only just scratched the service of Acrobat, but can already tell I’m gonna dig it a lot.
The big jaw-dropper of the bunch is Illustrator, though. I had no idea it was this cool of an application now. The mesh tool alone made my jaw hit the floor. It’s very intuitive and is very well integrated with the other Adobe apps. I haven’t had time to really dive into the depths of Illustrator, but most definitely will when I have time. It looks like it will be my new Web design tool.
Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. Plus, because I run my own business, this will be good for me when taxes come up. Instead of throwing away money to the government, I can spend it on something I really need in order to keep working. Can’t beat that!
