An Interesting Morning

This morning, a friend of mine had a few hours free, so he came over and brought two guns of his.  One was an SKS assault rifle, the other was a 9mm Ruger pistol.  I had never shot an SKS before.  It had a good weight to it and shot 7.62x39 rounds, which don’t kick so bad.  It had the bayonet on it as well with a 30 round clip.  It looked just like something out of the Middle East.  We set up a box with a bullseye in the back of our land with a large mound behind it.  We shot 100 rounds with the SKS and my shoulder isn’t sore one bit.  The rifle IS loud though if you don’t have earplugs.  I was quite impressed with this rifle.

The 9mm ruger was very nice as well.  It hardly kicked compared to our Rossi .357 Magnum revolver.  It held 15 rounds and had a nice, balanced feel when it was fully loaded.  The movies are full of crap when they show an actor shooting a bad guy dead from 100 yards while running with a pistol.  We were about 70 feet from the box and had a hard time shooting the inner circle just standing there.  The pistol doesn’t kick, the recoil pushes the nose of the gun up, so it’s hard to hit the same spot again quickly.  I very much liked this pistol.  We shot 100 rounds with this gun as well.

The box looked like Swiss cheese when we were done and the ground behind it was very nicely tilled.  Out of 200 rounds, I only found several intact and on or near the surface of the ground.  Next time, he’ll bring a couple different guns.  It should be fun.
