According to this article, an international team based in Australia has successfully teleported a laser beam the distance of one meter. They predict that within 3 to 4 years, the first atom will be teleported, but that it will be a long time before humans are ever teleported.
The experiment is based on quantum entanglement. In theory, all electrons, ions and atoms are the same, but the quantum particles that make up an object are different. So what’s being teleported is not the particles themselves, but the information about the particles. A kind of duplication, if you will. It’s an interesting article, check it out.
