BIG lil Apps 1

I’ve decided I’d do a small series of posts that describe the very useful utilities and small applications I use on a regular basis on Mac OS X.  Some of these are freeware, others are shareware.  All of them are very useful and well worth the money the developer is asking, if any.  So let’s get started…

PiXel CheckI have a flat-panel iMac, so I run the chance of having dead pixels.  With so many pixels in the screen, it’s very hard to see which pixel is dead, let alone whether or not it’s the red, green or blue pixel that’s screwy.  PiXel Check is a simple little utility that allows me to check my screen easily for dead pixels.  It’s freeware.  There are some other out there that do the same thing but charge you a shareware fee.  This is just as good, if not better than those, and is free.  What more can you ask for?

SuperCalSuperCal is a very handy utility that walks you through a step by step process to optimize your display, whether it’s an LCD or CRT.  I first used SuperCal on my Pismo Powerbook and noticed a major difference in display quality afterwards.  It was amazing.  SuperCal is $19 shareware, but worth the price.

Tomorrow, I’ll post about two more apps I find very useful.
