Once again, Bill Whittle has written an amazing piece. In fact, it’s one of the best I’ve seen. This time it’s on the reasons to go to war with Iraq. It’s lengthy, but well worth the read.
Also, I recommend reading the comments. There is one particular person using the name of Mark Tinsley who resorts to a common argument method. You can see others follow suit to defend Mr. Whittle’s position, but the “debate” bogs down into pointless arguments of trivial issues. Mr. Whittle finally responds to Tinsley with a series of excellent questions and statements. Most notably:
The quality I find so striking about Mr. Tinsley and many of his colleagues is their startling refusal to actually state what they are FOR. He will hotly disagree with me on this, no doubt, but this line-by-line sniping reminds me of the essential moral bankruptcy of post-modernism and deconstructionism. <snip> It is easy to criticize people and nations THAT TAKE ACTION. In every one of his responses to my arguments, he can choose his targets and attack the consequences of action taken, free of defending against the alternatives of inaction, or contrary action. It is a no-lose situation. It is unfair. Ultimately, it is cowardly, because it requires no commitment on the part of the author. Many nations have also found this philosophy attractive.
