Changes

Well… I quit my job at the bowling alley last night after we closed up for the night.  I had been thinking about doing it for a month and then dreamt about it Tuesday night!  So I figured I might as well do it.  My business is picking up some more and I’ve got a good size cushion in my savings already.  I gave Connie (the co-owner) my notice and that was that.  After I had told her I was quitting, it was like a huge weight had been lifted.  I guess I really hated it there.  I like my co-workers (except 1) and I really like Darwin (the other co-owner).  I just needed to move on.  It was dragging me down, and I needed to get out of there.

As I was driving home, I passed the De Queen Bee’s office at about 10:45 PM and the editor’s and sports editor’s trucks were parked outside.  I kept driving for about another 1/2 mile, and then really felt strongly that I should go back and talk with them.  So I turned around and went in.  They thought it was really ironic that I came in, because they were just talking about how I would make a good employee there at the Bee.  Then when they found out I had just quit my job, they offered me a contract job with them working on their computers and Web site.  So I’d be doing things like installing software, working on the network, helping with peripherals, teaching new software, etc. as well as working on the Web site.  I can do the Web stuff from home, and the rest I’d come in for a few hours here and there.  It pays a LOT better than the bowling alley, and I already know and like all the Bee employees.  So things worked out for the better!  I already felt good about quitting the job at the bowling alley, and then a few minutes later I get a much better job!!  I love it!  God is good!

On a rabbit trail… as I was driving home from the bowling alley and before I passed the Bee office, I stopped at a 4 way stop sign.  Leaning up against the stop sign was a HUGE pair of train wheels!!  The nearest railroad track was over a mile away, so I figured they had fallen off a truck and rolled into the stop sign.  I’ll bet that made a loud noise.  And I can’t imagine how the driver of the truck didn’t hear it!  I called 911 and told them about it, and they sent some cars out.

On another note, in 1 week, I’ve had a wolf, a lynx, a few rabbits, a dog and squirrel run out in front of my car.  I’m starting to get real nervous now.  I think they’re in cahoots and trying to get me to swerve off the road or something.  It’s a game for them.  Bunch of adrenaline-addict animal punks.

Oh! Before I forget.  I was also mentioned in the Arkansas Associated Press’ newsletter.  That goes out to every newspaper in the state, so I got some pretty good advertising again for free.
