Just a short note for now. I woke up Wednesday morning, sat down to check my email and noticed that my iMac was frozen. Solid. My lovely, little iMac that hasn’t given me one hiccup since I bought it was suddenly deader than a doornail. Mac OS X, the rock-solid OS that had only messed up on me once before (which was easy to fix) in almost 2 years was suddenly screwing up, BIG TIME.
I’ve FINALLY got it back up and running after a nightmare of running around trying to find a Firewire cable in podunk Arkansas. I’ll write more about it later, once I’ve fully recovered.
I made a backup last night as soon as I got the information back on the hard drive. I’ll be making a few more backups today as well of other stuff.
I realized last night that I had forgotten to copy over my iPhoto album, so I lost all the pictures I had ever taken since I got my iMac. I felt sick to my stomach when I realized it. Luckily, I still have about half of all the pictures I’ve taken because they were still on my Powerbook. And I saved a couple of the newer ones in other places, so I have those as well. But I lost a LOT of them anyway. Sucky.
It’s like that morning in November when I wanted to check my email and my HD totally failed on me. It made all funny noises: squeeking and peeping and wouldn’t boot anymore. I’ll tell you: when you’re standing there – right out of bed in your underpants – all blood fades away from your blushing cheeks. And you’re thinking of all the stuff you never would backup (‘my computer will never crash’). A horrible day, that was. Thing is: I still haven’t learnt my lesson: last backup was four months ago! And yours?
