Country Flags

I’ve added a new feature to the comments on this site.  A person’s national flag will be shown next to their name based on the IP address of the computer they’re posting from.  I got the idea from this discussion on the pMachine Support Forums.  You can see how I got it working in that thread too.

Right now, it looks a little rough, but I’m working on a new site design that will use it in a much nicer way.  I just needed to get it working first.

I can see how this can be a cute feature, but I think this has some potential to create problems. Because when I see a flag next to a person’s name, the first thing I think about is that person’s nationality and not their location. What about a person living in one place but being a citizen of another country (like me, for instance)?

a plugin or a module for this would be nice

That is a problem, sya. The only way I can see getting around it is by having people sign up as members and choosing their nationality from a drop-down menu in the process. Otherwise, this is pretty much the only way to go. Especially if you want it to be automated.

A plugin wouldn’t work because of the extras you would have to install yourself. A module could work though.
