Custom Choppers

It seems like custom choppers are all the rage now, especially with the popularity of shows like Orange County Choppers and West Coast Choppers.  They crank out some very expensive, very custom choppers for all kinds of clients, including famous ones like Shaq, Goldberg and Kidd Rock.

I have to admit, there’s not too many choppers from those shops that I like.  At least none that have been shown on their shows.  That said, there are some amazingly beautiful choppers out there.

Below are a few pictures of some choppers I really like.  The one on the bottom is my all-time favorite chopper.  Every time I see it, it impresses me more.  It’s just motorcycle perfection, in my opinion.

“Whose motorcycle is this?” – “It’s a chopper, baby!”

Nice-looking vehicles…

I like that top one a lot. It has a real cool neo-retro look to it.

Sick bikes by Arlen Ness and Billy Lane are the third bike(Arlen) and fourth bike(Billy). Some of the best builders out there for sure.

Check out Russel Mitchell with Exile Cycles. Paul Yaffe with Paul Yaffe Originals. Mitch Bergeron out of Palm Springs CA. Those builders are some of my favorite.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States November 26, 2004

I didn’t like anything from Exile or Mitche Bergeron, but Paul Yaffe makes some really, really nice bikes! I’d take just about anything he’s built and be proud to ride around on it.

Lost_Soul's gravatar Lost_Soul United States November 26, 2004

What about the hubless knuck from choppers inc? That would be Billy Lane’s creation. If you don’t like Mitch or Exile you gotta love Billy or check out Matt Hotch.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States November 26, 2004

Matt Hotch (HotMatch) has some very nice bikes too. The Stugots bike is insane! How does that work? It looks too low to be rideable. Does it lower itself when parked or what?

Lost_Soul's gravatar Lost_Soul United States November 28, 2004

Matt Hotch puts hydrolics on his bikes. He makes them w/o a kick stand and they drop onto the ground. His Discovery Channel bike sold for 200k and had hydrolics on it. The guy is definetly a G.

Well, if I ever win the lottery or inherit a ton of money, I know who will be building my custom bike. I like Matt Hotch’s bikes the best out of all the builders I’ve seen.

Lost_Soul's gravatar Lost_Soul United States November 30, 2004

He’s an awesome builder!!! He builds some of the best new school bikes. But as for old school nobody really can beat the bikes Indian Larry used to build. He was the epitome of old school.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States November 30, 2004

I’ve seen some of Indian Larry’s stuff. I liked a couple of them, but I guess I’m more into the new school look.

The image I’ll always associate with Indian Larry was that time he stood on the seat of his bike with his arms out while rolling down the highway. I think it was on a Discovery Channel program.

Yeah that would be on Motorcycle Mania 2, with Jesse James and the Sturgis Special. He was riding through southern Utah when he did it. He was crazy!!! He used to ride his motorcycle in NYC. I wouldn’t be caught riding a motorcycle in NYC or driving a car.

i lkke the last one it is nice

Lost_Soul's gravatar Lost_Soul United States December 16, 2004

if you like the last one you’ll like martin bro’s. I’m pretty sure that it is one of theirs. Check them out at www.martinbrothers.com.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States December 17, 2004

Actually, the link you gave takes you to a cheesemaker or something like that. The Martin Bros Web site is at http://www.martinbrosbikes.com/.

The last two bikes I have above are both Martin Bros creations. The bottom one is called Trendkill and the one above it is the Purple Gangsta.

What’s interesting is that after seeing all of Hot Match’s stuff, I think I like his bikes better than the Martin Bros’ stuff. I’m glad you told me about them.

Good stuff right there, I really enjoy Billy Lanes bikes, Ever heard of Matt Hotch? Hes got some sick bikes. Jesse James is another one of my favorite bike builders. I like your selection, those are some sick bikes.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States June 10, 2005

Matt Hotch is now my favorite builder. I was pointed to him earlier in the thread and really, really liked his stuff. He’s innovative, but not in a gimmicky sort of way, like O.C.C. in my opinion.

Blaze's gravatar Blaze United States July 26, 2005

My assistant principal wants to know how you can stand to ride on those choppers. She wants to know how the back support is and how the suspension is. We have killer pot holes in Millwaukee.

Now a note from me i’m 13 and you have been my idol forever. I just love your bikes. My life long dream was to become a chopper builder. I really liked the blue bike you made that you won the biker-build off with. I really want you to mail me back. Hay by the way can you give me some tips for my future as a chopper builder.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States December 7, 2005

I didn’t make those bikes, and I doubt the guys who did are reading this page. You should do a Google search for Matt Hotch, Arlen Ness or Billy Lane. They made some of the bikes in my post. When you find their sites, send them an email.

And good luck with chopper building. If you get good enough, you won’t be without people who’ll love and want to buy your bikes.
