eBay Sucks Ass!

I hate eBay with a passion right now.  In an earlier post, I had mentioned I was looking to find a copy of Oni for the Mac.  Well, I did some searching and finally found one copy of it for auction on eBay.  That was four days ago.  I’ve been watching it every day since then.  The bidding never got high, so I saw my chance to get myself a copy of it for real cheap.  I logged in with only a few minutes left and kept reloading the page until I saw there was 1 minute left in the auction.  I entered in my bid, which would’ve been the winning one, but instead of seeing a “Congratulations!  You’re the winning bidder!”, I saw a #$(*@ login screen asking me for my *%(*&# password!  I paniced.  I entered in my password and hit submit, but instead of submitting my password, it brought me to some dumbass page with a link back to the item!  By the time I FINALLY got back to the auction, time was up!

Needless to say I let loose a few choice words.  I’m still very pissed about it.  I’m getting angry again writing about it.  Why did eBay need my %#*&# password if I was already logged in!?!?!

Now I’ve got to go scouring the Web again trying to find a copy.  There are no other Mac copies on eBay.  I can’t find any stores still selling it.  The folks at OmniGroup won’t sell me a copy.  So I’m screwed.  And I have eBay to thank.

I thought you might be interested in learning about our website. We have only been online since November, but we are already picking up a ton of steam. eBay has already sent us two emails from their safe harbor department, banning us from using their website. We take this as a huge complement and get great enjoyment from their fear!

Our website works like the auction websites except everything is free. This is not a scam! It is a place for people to trade items that they do no use anymore in exchange for other people’s unused items. All users pay for is shipping. We are currently turning a profit through Google advertising on the website and traffic continues to grow rapidly.

We have been featured in Michigan newspapers and on radio stations. Yahoo Finance also published a story on us. I am going to paste links to information about us below.

Sincerely,

Yes, ebay sucks the big one. Some jerk-off sells me totally misrepresented garbage and when I kindly ask for a partial refund he ignores me, so I give him negative feedback saying he sells trash and ignores emails. He then complains to ebay saying I “hacked his account” and they ban me! What a joke. Oh well, it was very easy to get another account being as I have 9 credit cards. Anyway, the lesson I learned is: 1) don’t waste your time trying to build up great feedback by saying glorious things about others because one day it will all go to hell. 2) Don’t buy from anyone who has under 50 sells and has ever been given negative feedback. 3) Set up multiple accounts so that when some jerk-wad makes a false complaint against you you won’t miss a beat. 4) Don’t expect any justice from ebay if something goes wrong. They’re just a bunch of hotshots with their thumbs up their butts making a nice living off the resale of predominantly stolen goods.

paul's gravatar paul United States February 20, 2005

I always wondered if most of the stuff you see on ebay is stolen (or just broken garbage). I dont see how people can make much profit selling brand new items for so cheap, after all the fees and hassle unless they have a steady stream of hot loot coming in from the petty theives, tractor-trailor hijackers, and modernday pirates of society…
Plus, a lot of these transactions are tax-free, for the seller and the buyer. Oh well, i wasted enough time here…i need to go see if i won my bids for chinese pirated CDs and MS Office (just kidding bill gates)

What a bunch of babies. How many of you go straight to eBay to check your bids after posting here? You need eBay more than eBay needs you.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States February 26, 2005

I haven’t used eBay since I originally wrote this post. I get along just fine without it, as I imagine many people do.

Matthew Agtarap's gravatar Matthew Agtarap United States February 27, 2005

Lies. You’re probably the high bidder on some beanie babies right now. No one would put so much energy into something they didn’t care about. You’re all eBay addicts.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States February 27, 2005

And you seem to be putting a lot of energy into posting inciteful comments. Kind of pathetic.

Ebay provides the means for a seller to disply an item and a buyer to bid and win the opportunity to purchase the item. Nothing else. Everybody blames ebay for their own mistakes. They run a pretty good show. 99.99999999% of the sellers and buyers are good. I am approaching 200 transactions in six years and I have found nothing to criticize them about. I guess if one wants to find something to gripe about, one can find the means no matter what the situation. Also I have found that when I lose an auction , quite a few of the items will appear again, sometimes almost immediately. Usually all the bidders on the original item don’t show up again. With a few exceptions I have had second chances at everything. Most of the time at my price!

Paul's gravatar Paul United States February 28, 2005

99.99999999% ??? Let’s go through the process here:
You are bidding on something from a total stranger, and there’s a 75% chance he lists the item accurately or honestly. Then a 75% chance his buddies aren’t bidding the price up with no intention of buying the item ( I forget the term for that). Then a 45% chance some schmuck doesnt outbid you with 0.001 seconds left in the auction. Then if you win, there’s a 85% chance the seller doesn’t send the package to the wrong person. Then a 65% chance the post office doesn’t lose or damage the package. Then a 50% chance the seller doesn’t leave you positive feedback after you paid him inflated prices for stolen merchandise. This calculates to .. hmm… 6.99% satisfaction rate. That is why Ebay sucks ass.

I have had a few issues with Ebay the first one is how do you ever reach them if there is a problem with a seller. They keep giving you lists of questions to chose from. I put in I have a problem with a seller and I put in the the ID number and I get a message its over 30 days so they won’t accept it I bought a Seinfeld DVD Bloopers and Gags for my husband for Christmas and when he put it in it was such poor quality like someone taped it off their own tv and I paid $17.50 for this so I wrote to the seller..awful communication..just awful finally they said to send it back which I did 5 wks ago and I still haven’t heard from them or recieved the DVD/I feel that was a scam I would like to report it to have it stopped (the person is no longer a seller on ebay) but I see they have also been on Amazon, another thing I bid on 4 clothing items for my 3 yr old grandson (2 seperate bids) and I won both and for each this person is charging me $8.85 for each bid and she is sending them both to the same home and sending standard delivery (I do admit I should have checked out the shipping I sure was shocked when I did I then read on ebay some of the tips for sellers they encourage sellers to ad their handling and pkging time into the shipping and the buyer will only see the one shipping price. That to me seems deceptive I would rather see pkg and handling amount and shipping amount I also put in a dispute at one time through there online “what is the problem questions” due to I never recieved what I won but I was conned the person never answered one of my emails and Ebay sent out a blanket email we will look into it..they must be still looking into it that was 2 years ago

I hate ebay and paypal. all they care about is receiving money for goods sold, not the buyer who just got ripped off.

I got suspended from eBay for 8 hours. No reason, cancelled my auctions, destroyed my reputation with buyers looking at my items because they put up a page that said “This item has been removed by eBay because the seller is being investigated.” I live-chatted with them, they put reactivated my account, but my reputation is gone. They basically told my sellers that I was a fraud, even though I had done NOTHING, and even though they changed their minds as soon as I talked to them. The worst part is I am ID Verified. What was the point of verifying my ID if they are just going to yank me for no reason? What a waste of a week listing items that get cancelled because they are morons…

Paul's gravatar Paul United States March 25, 2005

why did they investigate you in the first place? Were you trying to sell offensive items or something? Maybe you should sue them. I was reading about some dude in PA, i think, that paid like $1.50 too much for an item because ebay’s proxy bidding is flawed and he is suing ebay for like 10 zillion dollars.

Dean Woodley's gravatar Dean Woodley United States March 26, 2005

heh, I’ve found some good things over ebay. I got my pocket PC off ebay for a great deal and the item was how the seller listed it.

but it annoys me that pretty much everyone on ebay is out to scam you. And eBay could care less about the thousands ripped off every day. They want their fees.

Steph's gravatar Steph United States March 31, 2005

I am an Ebay Power seller and I admit, that I have some major gripes with Ebay. However, I am very put off by the comment that “pretty much everyone on Ebay is out to scam you.” This couldn’t be further from the truth, as far as I am concerned. This is my job, which by the way, consumes more than the typical 8-hr/day job. It is unfortunate that this attitude prevails in the minds of some individuals…ask the 150,000 people who make their living online with Ebay if their intent is to scam others. Ask the now stay-at-home parents who have the pleasure of being around their children, which their previous jobs wouldn’t allow because they had to commute to work, drop their kids in daycare and come home tired and irritable. I hope people give Ebayers the benefit of the doubt…most people are kind, honest and well intentioned.

paul's gravatar paul United States March 31, 2005

I think that “power sellers” are the worst type of ebay sellers and are why ebay is no longer the pleasant community is started out as. One small example is that this seller sent me a rude email when i asked if my item has shipped, and his response was : “I sell 1000 CDs a week and can not keep track of every shipment, or respond to all of the emails of people wanting the status of shipping. You will get your CD soon”
what the hell kind of crap is that??? If i send negative feedback because i never got my item, guess what? They retaliate and give me negative feedback for giving them negative feedback, even though they cashed my check months ago!

Steph's gravatar Steph United States March 31, 2005

To state that “Power Sellers are the worst type of Ebay Sellers” is unfortunate. I, for one, always inform my auction winners when I send out their item and I thrive on good communication, emails and excellent customer service and satisfaction…which is why I have 100% positive feedback! Categorizing people is prejudicial and dangerous…imagine if everyone had this attitude in life.

I have quit using Ebay. I’m sick of the lies and dishonesty of it all. i’ve lost over 400$ in the past two years on Ebay and that’s nothing compaired to a friend of mine who lost 1500$ to a fradulent auction. It’s simply not worth the risk.

EBAY CAN EAT TURDS
I WAS SELLING PSP’S AND WAS SCAMMED OUT OF ONE . I MAILED
THE ITEM PRIORITY AND THE PACKAGE HAD TO BE SIGNED FOR
ALSO HAD A TRACKING #
BUT THE BUYER TOLD EBAY HE NEVER RECVD THE ITEM AND EBAY ASKED ME FOR TRACKING # AND RECIEPT FOR THE ITEM SO I GAVE THEM WHAT THEY WANTED AND THEY STILL TOOK MY MONEY AWAY .

Paul's gravatar Paul United States April 8, 2005

Ebay can take money from sellers now? That is scary. What is the point of ebay if they can’t keep everyone from ripping everyone off? why can’t people just look for stuff to buy off yahoo or google and skip the ebay middleman?

Shaz's gravatar Shaz United Kingdom April 10, 2005

After finally reaching a (1000) feedback score at eBay with no negatives, I am out of there. Enough is enough and this site has too big a cash grab. I have come up with a better idea, that works for me. I have been listing my stuff on a free site called www.theauctionman.net. It is really fast and easy to list using there, with their template based bulk lister. You can even copy your whole ebay store over, fast and easy with no retyping or copy and pasting. I have seen people move 1,000 listings in an hour. This site is growing fast because the people that run it know how to do things right. Sure it does not have the eBay exposure just yet, but so far I have sold over 40 lots there. Check it out. I am sure you will like it.

My account was suspended with Ebay, because my son’s account was suspended. They say “ I am associated with the user id. My son is over the age of 18 and was living on his own, and unfortunately he got scammed out alot of money, which caused his account to be suspended. He then moved back home, my account gets suspended because of his business deals on Ebay. I had nothing to do with his account, I had perfect feedback, and now they think I had something to do with his account. I am trying to get my account re-instated, but if this is how Ebay practices business, then I don’t think I want to do any more business with them, and hope another auction site can blow Ebay out! I just think its unfair for me to get suspended.
