Excellent Tengwar Resources
Kimmie at StarJewel commented in another post that she had looked for Tengwar fonts a while ago, but that they were all conflicting. She was wondering if there were more reliable sources now.
Her comments made me decide to post the links to the sites I go to often, and which all agree with each other (except for minor details here and there).
- Tengwar Textbook - If you’re wanting to see charts for the different modes, rules for writing, specimens of Tolkien’s writing and more, this is the place to go. Download all the PDFs. They’re packed full of excellent stuff.
- Mellonath Daeron - Great site, LOTS of information.
- Amanye Tenceli - Lots of great fonts, examples and charts of Tengwar for different modes.
- Ardalambion - TONS of information. Example text, fonts, languages, modes, pronunciation, links...
- Tengwar Transcriber - A great online transcriber. Nice to check your work to see if you’re doing it correctly. It’s not always 100% correct though, so having your own mode charts around is recommended.
- Elfscript Yahoo! Group - an excellent place to ask for help from the experts.
- Tengwar FAQ - if you’re a beginner and you’ve got questions on Tengwar, this has lots of answers.
- Dan Smith’s Tengwar page - lots of example text, modes, punctuation and fonts.
- Tengwar in Reality - excellent advice if you’re wanting to get a tattoo using Tengwar. Also has good links to other sites.
- Ring Designer - if you’re looking to get a nice ring or rings with the Tengwar inscribed in them, check this place out.
I hope this helps others out there who are getting into Tengwar. If you know of other great sites on Tengwar, then leave a comment with the URL.
hullo!
Where did you get your name translated? That is really cool. Lately I’ve been trying to find some sites that would help me translate mine but so far nothing..my name is hard one, too, i’d imagine. Your site is wonderful. Keep it up!
