ExpressionEngine 1.2 Released

The guys at pMachine have released version 1.2 of ExpressionEngine.  I’ve been beta testing it now for a few weeks, and really liked what I saw.  It’s quite a major update.

The moblog module has been improved and a new Image Gallery module has been included.  This isn’t a bare-bones gallery either, but rivals some of the better known ones like Coppermine.  I’m thinking about adding a gallery for my photos, but I have other things that are more pressing.

The Blogger API is now supported.  Now you can use desktop applications to post to your blog instead of the standard browser-based control panel.  I think the Blogger API is extremely limited, so I won’t be using this feature.  However, I know there are quite a few people out there who are happy to see this feature come to EE.

Page load times should be faster now since Rick and Paul stress tested their code to find out why so many EE-run sites were slow.  I had the modified EE file before the beta period, so my pages were already loading faster, but now it’s officially released.

Rick was nice enough to include a change I made to a file as well that allows someone using the Edit page in the control panel to click on an author’s name to send them an email.  I’ve also written three EE plugins since Friday and am very, very close to finishing the new EE plugin manager.  It will hopefully be included in the next release of EE.
