This AP article on Yahoo lets us in on how Saddam views the US’ campaign against him. He says the reason the US wants to topple him is so it can control the world and its economy. So that the US can dictate to all other countries how they should be. He paints Iraq as the one nation on the planet that is preventing this horrible event from happening. He also mentioned that the US has found out we can’t control the world by military means, so we will try to use oil instead.
GIVE ME A BREAK! If we really wanted to do that, we could have done it during the Gulf War. And doesn’t this fly in the face of just about every previous image that the world has been trying to pin on the US? That of a loner, isolationist country who doesn’t want to deal with the rest of the world? Suddenly, now we want to control the entire world!
What’s really sad is I know there are people all over the world who will eat this up and scream out, “See! I knew the US just wanted to control the world!!” Jealousy is a horrible thing, especially when it fuels political and social agendas. And that’s the main reason so many countries despise the US. They can claim it’s because of our foreign policy all they want, but the real reason is because they don’t have the freedoms, economy, money and influence the US has. All these European nations DID control the world when they were world powers. They didn’t seem to mind about it then. Now that they don’t have that kind of power or influence, they cry and moan about the country that does.
