Great 80s Shows

I received an email earlier this evening from a cousin that had a list of things popular or common back in the 80s. It was quite funny, but also got me thinking about all the cool TV shows I used to watch back then. Some I watched religiously, others I remember other family members watching. So for the hell of it, I thought I’d write a little about some of the shows I watched back then.

Miami Vice: When you think 80s and TV shows, this one naturally comes to mind first. It was the quintessential 80s TV show and made pastel colors and goofy suits cool. Not to mention the cool sports cars, speed boats and bikini-clad women. It was more than that though. The stories were actually interesting on a lot of the episodes, with interesting characters. It had good action and suspense. The camera work was more movie-like than your average 80s show. I still watch reruns of it whenever I catch one on TV.

A-Team: This show was great to watch when I was a kid. I think every kid who watched it wanted to drive a black van with cool rims and a spoiler when they grew up. The characters were all great and fun to watch. The stories weren’t brilliant, but were good enough to be entertaining. Parents liked it because even though half a million bullets were fired and a couple dozen explosions happened in every episode, no one died!

Knight Rider: Before he was an oiled-up lifeguard hanging out with Pamela Anderson, he drove a kick-ass black car that talked to you and could do amazing things. It was every young boys dream car. The cool oscillating light in the hood of the car with that futuristic sound it made. Being able to jump over all kinds of things including a moving train! Bulletproof everything. And he got to drive into that moving truck all the time. I mean really, what couldn’t KITT do?

Fraggle Rock: I know, I know. This doesn’t exactly fit in with the other shows listed, but I still loved it when I was a kid. It had a great setting that any kid could easily imagine was real. All the characters and sets were cool looking, and it had a really catchy jingle. I liked it so much, I even had a Wembley stuffed toy! Wait… I think I’ve said too much.

There are lots of other shows I watched every now and then: Magnum P.I., Love Boat, Fantasy Island, The Incredible Hulk, Six Million Dollar Man, Wonder Woman, etc. And I can’t even begin to list all the cartoons I watched: Thundercats, Transformers, M.A.S.K., GI Joe and He-Man to name a tiny fraction.

What shows or cartoons did you watch in the 80s?

Feb. 23: Here’s a 30 minute long video showing nothing but 80s cartoon intros. I remember most of them. Brings back tons of memories.

Those shows are spot on. I watched all those shows. Honestly, during the 80’s I can’t remember watching much else. I mean I suppose there were shows like…

the cosby show, family ties, growing pains…

Oh i don’t even want to continue!

No offense, but many of these TV shows listed, are the main reason why I left my TV turned off in the 80’s. Maybe it was because of my age at the time.

But, the more I think about it, I didn’t care for TV too much in the 60’s, 70’s, and 90’s either.

Oh I’m deeply offended… I kid, I kid!

I don’t know, I guess when you’re a kid, just about anything could be entertaining on TV. These days, there’s not a whole lot on TV I like.

These days tv is horrible,be it for grown ups or
small kids, teenagers, etc. To my knowledge their is very little saturday morning cartoons anymore
either. When reality tv hit i think the writers went to the fall-out shelters and haven’t returned.
