History of Al Qaeda

While responding to a post on dangerousmeta!, I found an interesting site about the history of Al Qaeda.  One thing I learned from it was that Al Qaeda formed BEFORE the Gulf War, during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.  I had always thought it formed BECAUSE of the Gulf War, but was obviously wrong.  This gives new support for President Bush’s claim that Iraq and Al Qaeda have had ties for a decade.

I have to let the world know that there is no smoke without fire. That osama bin laden is a founder of a terrorist network did not come to me as a suprise, the reason why i said this is that he (osama)is a moslem.I want to clear this statement, the man whom the moslems took as their prophet(mohammed)was a trrorist during his time and all who follows his teachings will in one way or the other do what he did during his time, and what is that, killing innocent souls.Mohammed othered the killing of so many people who opposed his teachings, and also othered the killing of jews,i am really sorry for these brainwashed humans who have decided to destroy their lifes and that of others in the name of religion that has nothing to do with God.I want to let these muslims know that they are living under a curse because the founder of their so called religion washed his hands in the blood of innocent people and untill they think twice and understand that they are under a curse, they will continue to die like fowls.I want to ask these muslims a question, why is osama bin laden afraid to die and he is busy sending others to die,why is he into hidding if he knew that what he is doing is the right thing,i want to ask the good people of the world that are supporting this evil man to stop henceforth their support for this uncircumcised human, finally i want to say this, that osama bin laden has every attribute of Mohammed and unless this religion (islam)is wiped off from the face of the earth i am afraid we are going to more senseless killings,
MY MESSAGE TO YOU OSAMA IS THIS;YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN NOT HIDE FOR A LONG TIME;YOU ARE GOING TO PAY FOR WHAT YOU DID SOMEDAY AND SO ALSO YOUR ACCOMPLICES:YOU ARE LAUGHING NOW,BUT YOU WILL CRY IN THE END,THE REASON THAT HELL IS WAITING FOR YOU:

Who is this guy Samuel? Are where do you guys get this stuff? Are you just trying to say something contrary to American liberals? You seem to have the right idea regarding the philosophical depth of fundamentalist Islam, but you are ineffective in your approach because, to anyone who can knows an ass from an elbow, your doctrine is rhetorically uneducated. Try reading up, if you indeed are interested in the topic…Stephen Flynn’s book “America the Vulnerable” will help you become more effective in understanding the extent of terrorism, and Demetrios James Caraley’s edited a book called “American Hegemony: Preventive War, Iraq, and Imposing Democracy,” which gives foreign relations insight dealing with America as the sole hegemon. Not just Muslims take offense to blowing people off the map. Do yourselves a favor and find out the difference between liberal democratization, imperialism, and in the context of history whether the Bush doctrine’s attempt to secure global dominence as a means to prolong security is a smart move in theories of the balance of power versus Pax Britannica. Hopefully someday you will be able to check your emotionalism and be an ally to those of us who agree that U.S. ideology is correct and fundamental Islamic ideology is evil. bin Laden, however, is in love with his power and his interest is only SLIGHTLY ideological, his attacks are meant to achieve the end of American removal America from the Islamic world. Nobody wants their ridiculous religion, even he knows that…he has a business/economics degree, he’s a rich kid, with loaded parents. His terrorism, like all others, is met to achieve political gain, not religious. Give me a case in history where religion has caused terrorism or military strife and I will tell you how you are wrong. All military conflict is married to political interest. Your thoughts are welcomed.

Hi IRA,

I’m not sure who Samuel is or where he is from. Everyone is free to post their comments as long as they’re not insulting, crude or worse. Some people leave some very uh… interesting comments.

I agree with you on just about every count. Where I slightly disagree with you is Bush’s supposed “doctrine of global dominance”. Bush isn’t trying to turn America into another British Empire. If Bush was trying to make colonies out of Iraq and Afghanistan, I’d agree with you. He’s most certainly not doing this.

How would you go about tackling the problem?

IRA's gravatar IRA United States October 21, 2004

True. We are the only nation in the history of civilisation that does not make colonies. But what constitutes a “colony.” Perhaps in this day, a nation that has some sense of economic loyal to the U.S., which the new Iraq government would since we picked it. Off that note, however, have you ever wondered whether acquiring WMD’s was perhaps more a state interest for Saddam than one of some psychotic madman? Do you think this constitutional democracy we impose will no have the same reason Saddam did. They are surrounded by Persians in Iran, vulnerable to Israel, and want to be the big daddy in the Middle East bloc just like Iran. So, wouldn’t the next step be to acquire nuclear weapons? Yes, history will show that the removal of Hussein was the right thing to do, but WMD is an deterrent mechanism Iraq will continue to pursue because of its history.
As far as how I would have handled it…good question. I would have spend 100 times the resources to protect things like cargo containers entering the U.S., U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada border, our ports, our airports (not making people take off shoes, but luggage which is not hardly checked compared to the anal cavity search we humans receive), food import and export protection, chemical plant protection. If we made the result of terrorism less spectacular, the terrorists would have less incentive to attack. Agriculture counts for 10% of the GNP. One case of foot-in-mouth in Washington state caused 15 countries to ban imports on U.S. beef. It took 30 days to find all the cattle that one cow came in contact with, by then what does it matter. 100% of the natural gas that powers our power plants for the western U.S. comes from Vancouver, Canada, and 100% of the water that powers the eastern U.S. comes from Quebec. It’s the largest trading bloc in the world, and we do nothing about protecting it. The Chechins who just terrorized that Russian school made it into the U.S. through the Mexican border to work in al-Qaeda cells.
But doing these things it not as glorious and glamorous as winning a war that does not necessarily need to be won at the moment. They attacked us BEFORE we toppled Iraq and Afghanistan because our global dominance offended them, now our hegemonic interest has far outgrown its 9/11 influence. Yet, we have not done anything of significance to protect ourselves from the inevitable. Homeland Security? Tom Ridge is just a button Rumsfeld likes to push every now and again.

I am sorry to see that some people misunderstood whta i was trying to bring out, some who replied my comment are doing so in the wrong direction and i want to put you guys aright.Listen America has been existing before George Bush was born,i know that he is trying his best to make the world a better place, but listen don`t forget that in the course of this,he also pursues his own personal interests. But that is not what i am trying to bring out here, what i am saying is that the name islam is a bad news, the people have been brainwashed and their is nothing you can do about it untill God visits them in a special way.Terrorism is another name for islam and if you like it or not that is the way it is.Look all over the world, wherever there is war look at it very closely there must be an islamic undertone in this war.Look at the middle east, look at Africa,Look at the former yugoslavia, look at Asia the hand writing is on the wall, and what do i mean that no sensible human should do anything with any man with islamic ties, because their second name is terrorism. They have their koran which they call the holy book, but i tell you this book should better be called the peace destroyer.it is the only book that i have seen that has destroyed the peace of man since the introduction of this book.LISTEN WHOEVER MIGHT READ THIS MY MAIL,THE WORLD WILL SEE SOMETHING THAT WILL SHAKE EVERY HUMAN,TSUNAMI,IS JUST A TIP OF THE ICEBERG,SOMETHING THAT IS BIGGER THAN TSUNAMI IS COMING AND THIS WILL BE PERPETRATED BY THESE SO CALLED ISLAMIC FUNDEMENTALISTS WHO ARE JUST PROMOTING THE WORK OF EVIL ALL OVER THE WORLD.ONCE MORE OSAMA BIN LADEN,YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN NOT HIDE FOR A LONG TIMEYOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED,AND I PROMISE YOU ONCE MORE THAT YOU WILL SURELY PAY FOR YOUR SINS.ANOTHER THING AS LONG AS GEORGE BUSH IS STILL A PRESIDENT OF U.S.A,OSAMA BIN LADEN WILL CONTINUE TO BE A FREE MAN,BUT WATCHOUT AFTER BUSH COMES THE MAN WHO WILL CAPTURE OSAMA LIVE.

Ok, Samuel. You’ve said your piece, twice now. I most certainly do NOT agree with you on everything you said. There will be people who will disagree with you no matter how many times you clarify or repost (trust me, I know).

Listen my friend,i am not writing to convince to accept what i wrote, but i am trying to let you know what exactly is the situation and it cannot be changed.Whether you like it or not these generation of accusssed humans has succeded to bring to reality the prophesy of God prophesied many thousands of years ago. And,listen once more,Exactly ten years from today, the world will witness the worst catastrophy of human race .I am not telling you to accept it but that is what will happen.I pray you will be around to witness what i am saying.thanks

Hi,
I’m posting this comment only due to the harsh comment made by Samuel about our beloved Prophet, Mohammad(PBUH). I do dislike Al-Qaeda and their every deed which is against humanity. But the way Samuel commented it was fanatic and baseless.
I’m putting here some of the sayings of the great scholars of west itself.

“If greatness of purpose, smallness of means, and astounding results are the three criteria of human genius, who could dare to compare any great man in modern history with Muhammad? The most famous men created arms, laws and empires only. They founded, if anything at all, no more than material powers which often crumbled away before their eyes. This man moved not only armies, legislations, empires, peoples and dynasties, but millions of men in one-third of the then inhabited world; and more than that, he moved the altars, the gods, the religions, the ideas, the beliefs and souls. . . his forbearance in victory, his ambition, which was entirely devoted to one idea and in no manner striving for an empire; his endless prayers, his mystic conversations with God, his death and his triumph after death; all these attest not to an imposture but to a firm conviction which gave him the power to restore a dogma. This dogma was twofold, the unity of God and the immateriality of God; the former telling what God is, the latter telling what God is not; the one overthrowing false gods with the sword, the other starting an idea with words. “

“He was Caesar and Pope in one; but he was Pope without Pope’s pretensions, Caesar without the legions of Caesar: without a standing army, without a bodyguard, without a palace, without a fixed revenue; if ever any man had the right to say that he ruled by the right divine, it was Mohammed, for he had all the power without its instruments and without its supports.”
Bosworth Smith, MOHAMMAD AND MOHAMMADANISM, London, 1874, p. 92.

IRA,

You make good points about port security, containers and various aspects of securing (name any country) from terrorists. But the other side of that is to establish a free society in the ME and while far from perfect and far from perfectly free Afghanistan and Iraq do and will more and more qualify…this is a frontal assault on al qaeda and all the other results you speak of serve to do the job of making the results of terrorism less appealing – as you’re suggesting rightly. And so the war must be fought, literally, on many simultaneous fronts…this requires fiscal sacrifice and necessarily draws monies away from other, often worthy, causes…the alternatives are ugly though..

Does any one know why the British hate the French, when the british diss the French it looks so discusting on them, they show there true side, i mean its getting worse through these current years, especially on TV.

When i ask people why they hate the french they say, “becuase there stinking, garlic eating, with a #### accent and there all vampires”, theres never a proper answer, and anyone that reads, can you please anser me properly, i mean i think its something to do with the EU reform, but know one really knowes becuase the media hides the truth by saying a loud of ####.

And the americans, i mean how much american’s and there kids, know that the statue of liberty was given to them by the French. And why do you hate the french, is it becuase they are the rival economies.

To be quite honest im liking the french more and more and hating the british more and more becuase there so bitter about what they say, not the people definatly but the media. The media is run by the government im trying to figure out what the government is trying to do to the french.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States December 4, 2005

You apparently didn’t read Samuel’s posts correctly. Samuel said that Osama Bin Laden IS a terrorist. He had nothing but bad to say about al Qaeda and terrorists in general.

I’m thinking you wrote your comment just to piss people off.

Not's gravatar Not United Kingdom December 5, 2005

im thinking why didn’t you reply to my comment chris, my previous comment, everyone please read it and then you may think why chris has not replied to it yet. Instead he replies to the pissed off radical (who are easier to answer). Chris lets face it the american public cant do politics, the only politics americans do is patriosism, talking rubbish about our “troops” getting killed etc. its all the same.

lets face it, man one terrorist attack before the war and how much after america came in. and why iraq, how can terrorists come from there if the iraqi civilians are the ones being targeted by terrosists. Everyone knows, and dont try and do the common by calling me a “consiricy theorist” just to shrug of the truth, every one knows your taking in oil from iraq. Why dont you just admit it, becuase its there in your concious. it only makes you sound like an a** hole. I mean i understand if you dont, maybe your a cosmopolitan and you dont do politics and wish not to listen all the politics of the world, but you aint, your computer nerd frustrated and into politics.

stop giving crappy responses and come back with some truth, also dont come down with history facts, things about washington and crap like that.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States December 5, 2005

I didn’t answer your comment because I’ve heard the same thing a million times before. It’s the same tired horse that liberal Europeans love to beat.

Your hypocrisy is jaw-dropping. You end your screed with a call for me to give you truth (as if you’d be able to recognize it), yet you have made quite bold statements about Americans and American politics without a single shred of evidence. Where’s the “truth” in your statements?

I always get a kick out of smug Europeans, such as yourself, who think they know everything there is to know about Americans. They make idiotic blanket statements, without any proof, and think they’re so intelligent. Then when that doesn’t work, they resort to even more idiotic personal attacks, like in your second paragraph. It was a valiant attempt at getting a rise out of me, but it failed. I learned a while back that people can’t debate idiots like you. You’re not really looking for truth. You just enjoy puffing up, stroking your ego and getting the other person angry.

I’ll at least give you something to chew on, though I highly doubt you will even read it. I’ll give you a link with a very long list of attacks before and after 9/11.

And it’s really quite simple to understand why terrorist attacks increased once the war began… it’s a war! They’re fighting back the best way they know how! They don’t have tanks, missiles, fighter jets and the like. They have home-made bombs, trucks, small-arms and their greatest weapon… fear.
