I’m Sick As a Dog

I was feeling a little off yesterday, but didn’t think anything about it.  My back was hurting, but I couldn’t remember what I had done that would make it sore.  I figured I had slept wrong.  But it kept getting worse and worse, and soon other parts of my body were getting sore.  I was getting nauseated and feeling light-headed.

I was supposed to go bowling last night, but cancelled at the last minute.  Boy am I glad I cancelled.  About 6 pm, I got hammered!  My whole body ached, even my fingers.  I felt like hurling.  I was running a fever.  Actually, I was switching back and forth between burning up and freezing every few minutes.  My lungs were burning as well.  I couldn’t eat anything.  Luckily, I could keep down water and some soda crackers.

I took some ibuprofen, then hunkered down for the long-haul.  I slept like crap last night, waking up every two hours - sometimes burning up, other times freezing to death.  Eventually the ibuprofen wore off, and I made the BIG mistake of taking another on an empty stomach.  Within 15 minutes, I thought for sure I was going to hurl.  I crawled to the bathroom and got intimate with the bowl, but never hurled.  I almost passed out though.  I could feel the blood draining from my head and laid down on the cold floor.  After several minutes, I looked at myself in the mirror and I looked like #$^*&.  I had NO color, not even in my lips.  It was scary.

I eventually crawled back into bed and fell to sleep again.  I slept until 1:15 pm.  The fever feels like it has finally broken, but I’m extremely weak right now.  I’ve been slowly eating more crackers with peanut butter.  Hopefully, I can eat some real food by this evening!

i experienced one of those two winters ago. keep an eye on your temp.

drink lots of fluids! i tried to work through a similar one, and ended up in the emergency room having bags of saline pumped into my dehydrated frame. if water’s unpalatable, gatorade or ginger ale will do.

take care.
