MacCentral reports on the HUGE turnouts at the Apple retail stores for the launch of Mac OS X 10.2. In some places, they had lines of several thousand people waiting to get in to buy Jaguar! The launch event lasted only 100 minutes, from 10:20pm - midnight, but that didn’t seem to bother people at any of the Apple stores. Many of the stores said this event was much larger than their grand openings.
Apple didn’t only sell Jaguar, but also had huge sales of other software titles as well as hardware. I wish I had been closer to an Apple store. Even though I’ve had Jaguar for over a week now, I would’ve liked to have gone just to see all the people and feel the excitement. I can’t think of any other company that can get this kind of response from its customers. I can’t think of many other opening events that can generate this kind of excitement, except some movie openings.
