Kofi Annan is an ass

Kofi Annan is a sniveling man who will do anything to make the US look like the bad guy.  I’m sure you’ve heard that yesterday Iraq “unconditionally” accepted the return of UN weapon’s inspectors.  Kofi Annan, in his idiocy, held a press conference and stated so BEFORE he met with the UN security council about the letter!  The US and UK are miffed because he told the media before he told the security council the contents of the letter.  Kofi Annan was so worried about looking like he was correct and the US wrong that he didn’t even bother to tell anyone else before making his announcement.  Of course, this means that the hand-wringers in Europe and elsewhere will return to their anti-US drivel.  This was a shrewd move on Iraq’s part because it now puts pressure back on the US.

BUT… and this is a big but, the letter sent to Kofi Annan DIDN’T say that Iraq unconditionally accepted the UN inspectors.  In fact, the letter only reiterated the same position they’ve always held, which is they’ll let the inspectors in IF the UN sanctions are lifted.  That sounds like a pretty freakin’ large condition to me!  They also shrewdly worded the letter by saying:

To this end, the Government of the Republic of Iraq is ready to discuss the practical arrangements necessary for the immediate resumption of inspections.

That leaves TONS of room for Iraq to make demands on how, who and when the inspectors come back.

Like I said earlier, Annan is an idiot.  He should NEVER have made that announcement before meeting with the security council members.  The council should have looked over the letter first and THEN made the decision if Iraq was really “unconditionally” accepting inspectors, which they’re not.  Kofi Annan has simply played into the hands of the Iraqis and made it much more difficult for the UN to do its job right in this matter.  He should step down.

Steven Den Beste has the whole letter from Iraq and a more thorough analysis of it on his site.  Check it out.

I’ve been thinking about it some more and this is what I think happened.  Kofi Annan knew that Bush had nailed him to the wall.  Bush had successfully painted the UN as irrelevant if it did nothing, so Mr. Annan couldn’t have that.  He met the next day with Iraq and the Secretary General of the Arab League and told them to make some kind of announcement that they accept inspectors in order to get the pressure off of the UN and Iraq and make Annan look like the winner.  This meeting is stated in the Iraqi letter:

as well as the talks which were held in your office in New York on 14 and 15 September 2002, with the participation of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States

This MUST be true, because why else would he make the announcement BEFORE meeting with the security council?  I don’t remember hearing about a UN Secretary-General bypassing the security council ever happening before.

I feel that your language is very strong. As a younger student finding the article very helpful, i can also not turn it in for my report, due to language. I would love to use your stuff in the future, but i am sad to say, i can’t this time.

Then only quote parts you need. Leave out the parts you don’t want or find too harsh.

I’m sorry if you find the wording too strong, but since this is a personal site and not a newspaper, I won’t be toning anything down.

What you write about the UN and Kofi Annan is not only “Bullshit”, it is not the truth.Do you know what the UN is doing? I do not think so. The UN, representing 191 countries, is a global tool, an instrument looking for peace.
The US is a part of the UN, but if the Un has a problem, it seems that the US see the UN like a satelite.
Your articles are not unly useless, there are also not telling the true facts!

It IS the truth. The AP and Reuters both reported on Annan’s “jump-of-the-gun”, so are they both lying as well?

The UN was established to act as a mediator between countries and to that end bring about peace, but it is not living up to that mandate. Kofi Annan has stated this himself just a few days ago! He’s wanting to do a major review of the UN and see what is working and what isn’t so things can be changed. So if Kofi Annan can see the UN has problems, and I can see the UN has problems, then why can’t you?

And let’s talk about the US’ view of the UN. It seems like the UN is always hammering the US and Israel over every little thing it can find, yet turns a blind eye to MANY other attrocities. The UN is so politically correct that the volume of what it actually accomplishes is only a fraction of what it could get accomplished if it admitted to certain truths and acted accordingly.

When the going gets tough and the UN needs to send troops in somewhere, guess who gets called on to supply the lion’s share? Guess who gives the most money to the UN? Yet the UN time and time again tries to hamstring the US by political and economical means. Because of this, Americans aren’t impressed with the UN for the most part. Yes, there are some good things that come about from the UN, but it has repeatedly shown itself out of touch with world events and unable to make decisions because of the cauldron of political correctness it has become.

Of course you won’t agree with me, but I don’t really care. You may think my articles are “useless” or “bullshit”, yet I know of many more people who enjoy my articles and find them useful. Time to read more than just German articles on the subject, mmmk?

I did a Google Seach for “Idiot General Kofi Annan” and found your web site. After today’s (16-Dec-2003) lambasting by the Iraqi Foreign Minister at the lack of UN support for removing Sadam and for lack of UN support post-removal I wonder why there isn’t a call for Idiot General Kofi Annan to remove himself from his totally irrelevant role in the UN. He is a detriment to world peace.
