There’s another music meme going around that I couldn’t resist, thanks to Yoshi. Go to Music Outfitters and type in the year you graduated in the search box. Click on the link of “top 100 hits of xxxx”. From the list of 100, bold the songs you like, leave alone those you hate, italicize the ones you can’t remember.
I’m going to cut the number down to 20 though. So below is the top 20 songs from the year I graduated high school, 1992:
1. End Of The Road, Boyz II Men
2. Baby Got Back, Sir Mix A-lot
3. Jump, Kris Kross
4. Save The Best For Last, Vanessa Williams
5. Baby-Baby-Baby, TLC
6. Tears In Heaven, Eric Clapton
7. My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It), En Vogue
8. Under The Bridge, Red Hot Chili Peppers
9. All 4 Love, Color Me Badd
10. Just Another Day, Jon Secada
11. I Love Your Smile, Shanice
12. To Be With You, Mr. Big
13. I’m Too Sexy, Right Said Fred
14. Black Or White, Michael Jackson
15. Achy Breaky Heart, Billy Ray Cyrus
16. I’ll Be There, Mariah Carey
17. November Rain, Guns N’ Roses
18. Life Is A Highway, Tom Cochrane
19. Remember The Time, Michael Jackson
20. Finally, CeCe Peniston
He always told me that 1965 was the best year ever for music, and it still holds true. I was only 3 at the time, but I remember hearing a lot of those songs on the radio back then.
Music has gone downhill so much, I don’t even listen to it on the radio anymore. Maybe a good song will come out once every 5 years or so.
I hate. HATE Achy Breaky Heart. I can feel the anger rising just reading the song title again. I’d forgotten all about that song, but then you had to go and post it. Oh… that dreaded hook, the twangy voice, and stupid big hat.
Here’s a little known fact for you. It was Achy Breaky Heart that prevented Megadeth from having a #1 hit on the charts. I always envisoned a cage match between an outraged Dave Mustaine and haunty Billy Ray.
On your list, I like “Tears In Heaven” and “Life Is A Highway”, while most of the rest I haven’t heard of. I looked my graduation year up (1980), and unfortunately, the list sucks about as bad as your list. My favorite song on the list (“Refugee” Tom Petty) was on the very bottom at number 100. Your Dad’s graduation year looks to have a much better list.
