Let There Be Avatars!

Gravatar is a new service that allows for the use of globally-recognized avatars.  You sign up by submitting your email address and a password.  Once you activate your account, you can upload an 80x80 image which will then be used as your avatar on any Gravatar-enabled site, such as mine.

There are already plugins for this service for MoveableType, WordPress and TextPattern.  The service will soon be available for Blogger and LiveJournal.

I signed up for the service about 15 minutes ago and easily implemented it with ExpressionEngine.  Now, on all comments, a small avatar appears next to your comment for quick identification of who posted what.  Click on an entry that has comments, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

I’ll be making an EE plugin for this soon.

Les at stupidevilbastard.com has beaten me to creating an EE Gravatar plugin.  His plugin looks good and works well.  If you don’t want to use PHP in your templates, then Les’ plugin will easily do the job.
