Mac ComboDrives could implode?

In this Slashdot article, it seems that the Pioneer DVD drive (a.k.a. SuperDrive) in some Macs could go kaput if you try to burn high-speed media.  Lovely.  There’s supposed to be a hardware fix coming out soon.  I’ll definitely be looking for it.

It seems that this had already been addressed by the release of OS X 10.2.1.  An Apple KnowledgeBase article says 10.2.1 deals with the potential failure.  Excellent.  I’ll be downloading that soon.

I’ve had 10.2.1 installed for nearly 3 weeks now, and neither of my SuperDrives has imploded since.

How in the world could you have 10.2.1 for 3 weeks? It was only released yesterday. And they only released the next development seed yesterday as well.
