Mac Loyalists

Wired News has a great article on Mac loyalists.  While I was reading it, I found myself laughing.  I realized just how much of a Mac loyalist I am.  I’m constantly talking to my PC friends about how I enjoy using my Mac.  Every time one of them complains about their PC, I always tell them they should’ve bought a Mac.  I know one of my friends swears he’ll buy one next time.  He really likes my iMac, and was disgusted at how easily I connected my Mac to both his PC and my Linux box.

A very interesting (and funny) bit of the article is about a psychologist who studied Mac loyalists…

Goldstein, a clinical psychologist with the B/R/S Group, a market research firm, recruited a number of Apple users for a focus group. To qualify, they had to agree they would consider migrating to Windows if Apple went out of business. But as soon as the session started, they all reversed themselves and said they’d never consider switching.

“They were steadfast in their resistance to moving over,” Goldstein said. “It was humorous. They were picked because they might switch, but they all said, ‘I’ll be an Apple user until my dying keystrokes.’ The degree of loyalty to the platform, and everything it represented, was so profound. It was fascinating.

I actually debated on whether or not to put this post under Technology or Religion. Ha!

I have been in the video production business for 2 years now. I can not even begin to imagine the horror of trying to do this kind of work on a PC.

Whenever I meet up, or talk with other videographers and producers, they all have the same nightmarish stories and complaints. They notice that I have no complaints. The only time my production schedule gets behind is when I don’t feel like working that week. They all say they are going to throw everything they have out the window and start over. They ask “what should I buy?” I tell them that they can kick the crap out of virtually ANY PC set up they see at the stores or in magazines, by getting a 17’ iMac and a copy of Final Cut Pro. Total cost: $3000. And the great part is…. IT WORKS!

You can’t get a video editing system on a PC that actually works for under $10K. Like I have said before in other posts, I am not a religious person.. that includes Macs, but I can’t help but to laugh really loud when I see and hear stubborn PC diehards do nothing but complain about their piece of crap systems. Then out of the other side of their mouths, they slam Apple every chance they get.

I’ll be patient. Eventually they will switch over from the dark side and see the light.
