Mac OS X Panther

Well, I took your advice, Russ, and purchased Panther yesterday.  I bought it from Amazon since they have the best price and free shipping.  What blew my mind was that I already got it today!  I chose free shipping, which usually takes about 4 or 5 days to get here, and I got it about 24 hours after I ordered it!  I got an email this morning from Amazon telling me my order had shipped.  Yeah!  I guess so!  What excellent service from Amazon!  That’s why about 95% of my online shopping is with them.

Anyway, back to Panther.  It was a breeze to upgrade from Jaguar.  I chose the Archive and Install option, and it saved everything in my user directory as well as my previously installed applications with their preferences!  NICE!!  So I’m completely migrated now in about 1 hour.  Up and running like I’ve been using Panther for months.

I know about the bug with FileVault, so I won’t be enabling that at all.  I don’t have any external Firewire drives, so I’m not worried about that.  All in all, I’m quite pleased with Panther.  Of course, I’ve messed with the betas, so nothing is a surprise.  Everything is just a little more polished than the betas, and more stable.

Glad to hear you took the plunge and bought Panther. I got my copy from Amazon, and I got my notice that it had shipped the day after I found it laying at the back door.

Upgrading was very quick and easy, but I have to admit, that this talk of problems with Firewire drives has me nervous. So far, nothing serious has happened, but when you have tons of files and data scattered across 500 GB of external drives, you keep your eye open for the slightest bit of trouble.

Other than that, everything seems to be running better than ever before. Final Cut Pro is faster and more stable now too.
