Chalk this one up under “DUH!”. For years, Mac users have been hearing that Wintel systems are cheaper than Macs. That Macs are overpriced and that’s why they never sell.
Well, according to the Gartner Research firm in Australia, the Macs are actually cheaper to own and operate than their Wintel counterparts. Gartner studied factors such as “hardware and software for desktops and mobile computers, servers and peripherals, upgrades, service and support and depreciation. The study also examined the indirect costs of supporting end-users, training time and non-productive downtime”. The study was done at Melbourne University’s Faculty of the Arts. They use about 4,676 Macs and 5,338 POS, er, I mean Wintel boxes.
