I’m getting to the point where I don’t believe peace will ever be achieved in the Middle East. There are people on both sides who don’t seem to want it. All they want is the death of the other side.
I can understand making a precise strike on a militant leader when the chances of collateral damage are ultra low and when delicate peace talks aren’t on the table. But Israel’s attack on a Hamas leader yesterday was one of the most stupid, ill-timed attacks I’ve ever seen. I would’ve thought the same even if the attack would’ve been successful in killing the leader. Whoever called that attack should be publicly humiliated, even if it’s Sharon.
Surely Israel knew that an attack like that would most assuredly bring on suicide attacks. I know Hamas had already threatened to continue attacks despite the peace talks, but they were isolated by Palestinian leadership. They had no real excuse to continue to attack. It seemed like Israel was taking genuine steps to peace. If Hamas were to attack on the verge of peace, then they would look like the murderers they really are. But the asinine attack by Israel has accomplished nothing except possibly derailing the peace talks.
Idiots.

That’s actually the so-called Jenin massacre is a huge myth and easily debunked. Hundreds of not thousands of civilians did not die. The number hovered around 80, and were mostly enemy combatants.
What really happened in Jenin? Less, it would seem, than the original hysterics suggest. About 50 bodies have been found in the rubble. Israel says that perhaps 80 Palestinians were killed in all, and that most were armed fighters, not civilians.Early reports that said the Israelis had levelled Jenin appear to have been exaggerated. Aerial photographs show that the devastated vistas described in news reports represent an area about 100 metres square, a small corner of the camp.

When I saw news the other day of the Israeli attack on the Hamas leader, the first thing that went through my mind was.. “WTF, are they insane?”
Israel is a strong US ally and friend, and I admire much about them as a nation. I still do not have anywhere near the respect I had for them prior to June of 1982 when they allowed a pro-Israeli Christian militia group to go into 2 refugee camps and massacre hundreds, if not thousands of Palestinian civilians. It was very surreal to watch on TV, thousands of Israeli citizens taking to the streets to not only protest their government’s actions, but to also mourn the deaths of so many innocent Palestinians.
OK.. I’m rambling, but this latest incident brought back a few flashbacks for me.
