Miscellaneous Blathering

Apple Computer launched the beta version of their Web-based email service today.  In my opinion, it blows the doors off of any other Web-based email service out there.  The interface is close to how OS X looks and is a snap to figure out how to use.  Because it’s a beta version, there are some bugs and it’s slow, but all that should be ironed out when the final version comes out.  Check it out.

I’m getting really, REALLY sick of all the whiners out there who say we need to do something about some issue, and when something gets done about it, they whine and cry some more about how bad the solution is.  For example:

1. Battered women.  No one can argue that women who get battered need protection.  Many people cry out that these women need to be protected from any future batterings.  So now a group has decided to give women firearms lessons so that the women will know how to properly use one.  These women have already made the decision to use firearms.  They’ve already purchased their own firearms.  Why not give them education on how to safely handle one?  But the whiners come out in force saying that this will only increase the violence and suffering of everyone involved.  Uhhh… how?  If these women have already made the decision to use one, and are now learning how to safely handle one, how will the violence increase?  Some argue that the guns could be used against them.  Others argue that the women’s children could accidentally kill themselves with the guns.  True, these things could happen, but are very unlikely.  Chances are that a woman-basher will think twice before attacking a woman who has a gun and knows how to use it.  And part of the firearms training involves safe storage of the weapon.  The whiners say the only way to properly protect these women is by having a government run organization that can take care of these women.  They always think the government has all the answers.  I mean, look at how well the government runs the IRS, or airport security or the INS.  All you have to do is ask these battered women how well some of these institutions already are to find out what will happen.  Many of these “shelters” will only allow a woman to stay for a few months.  Restraining orders don’t work well and the police cannot possibly be there all the time to protect every single battered woman.  So I say, why don’t we let these adult women have the right to choose how they want to protect themselves?  Just because they’re purchasing a gun doesn’t mean they’re going to go out and blow people’s heads off.  Good grief.

2. The whiners were whining about how Bush shouldn’t send in American troops into Afghanistan during the war a few months back.  Especially when we started bombing Tora Bora.  They were too afraid of American casualties and Middle Eastern sentiment.  So, General Franks relies more heavily on our Afghan “allies” in that region to secure the escape routes out of the area.  Only recently did we figure out that Usama Bin Laden most likely was in Tora Bora when we started bombing and got out before American troops got there.  So now, the whiners are whining about how Bush didn’t do enough to capture Bin Laden.  All I have to say is SHUT UP!!  Either stand for one thing or the other, but don’t sit there and cry about anything and everything.  My guess is you don’t feel complete unless you have something to whine about, and preferably something or someone on the conservative side of things.  Man, I’m SICK of it!

On a completely different note… my business is picking up quite a bit now.  I’ve got a few more projects coming in which will bring in more money I need.  I’ve been struggling to get my business going for quite a while now, so it’s rewarding to see it starting to take off.
