Motorola v265

Motorola v265Several months ago, I cancelled my Cingular account before my contract had run out. My reasoning was that I was paying nearly $80 per month for a dead phone. I had bought it to use as my business phone, but never used it because I could never get a signal at home. Cingular’s coverage out here sucks donkeys, yet they continue to sell their products and services in this area. The closest Cingular tower is over 25 miles away! They tried to get me to pay the penalty charge for ending a contract early, but never pressed me for it when I didn’t pay.

So for several months, I’ve been without a cell phone. I finally got sick of giving out my home phone number to clients, so I decided I’d try a cell phone again with another company. My parents have been with Alltel basically because they’re the only carrier around that has a good digital signal out here. We worked it out that it would be cheaper for all of us if we put our three phones together on a decent nationwide plan than to have separate accounts. So today, I went and got a Motorola v265.

It was the only decent phone that was available for an affordable price. It’s got a camera (not that good, but handy when you need it), speakerphone, color-screen, etc. I’ve already got everything customized and am pretty satisfied with it. I even found out after I bought it that it will sync up with my Mac without any drivers! The best thing is that I actually have a strong signal at home now!

One thing I’m not liking is that there’s no way for me to transfer photos from the phone to my computer. Even after I get the USB data cable (which I ordered from Amazon), I won’t be able to since Alltel has locked the photo and music sharing parts of the phone! I’ll have to do some searching around to see how I can re-enable this.

First pic taken with v265The picture to the right is the first picture I took with the phone. It’s Dad looking bored out of his mind waiting on the phones to get registered and activated. It took almost an hour and a half to get the three phones ready! The picture actually turned out better than I thought it would. The tiny little display on the phone doesn’t do the pictures justice, but then again, what do you expect from a tiny display?

Broed? He looks as if he wants to grab the phone and cram it…. oh, never mind. maybe he just bored. The picture quality is better than I would have expected.

So how did you get that picture from the phone to your website?

I can send the images to an online photo album on Alltel’s site, but I’m pretty sure they charge me for the data transfer. That’s why I want to be able to do it directly from the phone to my computer.

Have you figured out a way to get pics directly off your phone yet? I’d love to know how. I, too, have Alltel and a Macintosh.

I haven’t figured out how to directly transfer the photos yet. There’s hardly any information available on the Net, and I don’t know near enough to start tinkering with things. It sucks.

If you end up finding a way to do it, definitely share it.
