I had a horrible night’s sleep. My stomach was in knots and I had a bad nightmare before I woke up. I wasn’t that pumped for the keynote, I was just having stomach problems.
Anyway… I got up this morning to watch Steve Job’s keynote speech. As expected, he demonstrated the new Mac OS X, which looks awesome. He showed several new apps that will be free like iCal, iSync, iChat, the new iTunes, Address Book, Sherlock and .Mac service. All of them (except iChat) looked cool. I will definitely be upgrading when it comes out on August 24.
The iPod prices have been dropped $100 and some changes have been made. They now sport a smoother scroll wheel, are 10% thinner and can include a remote control with headphones and a carrying case. Apple also introduced a new high-end model that has a 20 GB hard drive, that can hold 4000 songs. Geez!
He also showed the new 17” cinema flat-panel iMac! This is what I had been waiting for. As soon as he announced it, I called MacMall and ordered one. I had been chomping at the bit now for over 2 months to get one. I wanted to wait until after this keynote before I bought, and I am VERY glad I did. Besides having a bigger display, it also has the better NVidia GeForce 4 graphics card and an 80 GB hard drive.
What was surprising is that Apple didn’t introduce any new desktop systems. This was actually a HUGE surprise for me. I’m beginning to worry that some of the desktop fanatics are going to get real pissed about this.
All-in-all, this was a good keynote, but nothing phenomenal. I am just glad they introduced the bigger, better iMac!
