My Last Day At This Address

Well, today is my last day as a resident of Arkansas. Tomorrow morning, I’ll be jumping into a moving truck and driving down to Austin, Texas. I’ve almost packed all of my stuff. There’s just a couple boxes of things left to put in the truck.

I had a WHOLE lot more than I thought I did. When I picked the truck up yesterday, I thought it was too big. It looked like I could’ve used a 10’ truck instead. I’m so glad I stuck with the 16’ truck. There is no way I could’ve crammed all my crap into a 10’ truck.

Moving truck

I’ve lived here for over five years. That’s about four more than I had planned. My social life has been non-existant in that time. I enjoy the outdoors, beautiful scenery, quiet nights, gajillions of stars at night and so on, but I have hardly any friends and no prospect of finding new ones really, let alone meeting someone I’d like to marry.

I’ve had only one good friend this whole time here. I needed to get out of here and move to a place where the social scene is a lot better, and Austin is definitely a good place for that. Plus, I was born and raised there, so it’s familiar. It’s changed a lot since I left in ‘93, but many places are familiar. And I’ve still got friends and family there.

So anyway, this will be my last post from Arkansas. This weekend will be a blur unloading the truck and getting everything set up. I hope to be back on the Net by Monday or Tuesday.

This post reminds me of that Guy Clark song “texas cooking” which has the following lyric:
I’m going down to Austin, Texas
I’m going down to save my soul
Get that barbecue and chicken
eat my fill and come back home smile
Cheers on the move, hope it all pans out well for you!

Thanks for the post, Erwin. I’m not moving to save my soul, but they do have great barbecue around here.
