My weekend was somewhat eventful. Saturday evening, we went to a family get-together for my cousin. He is in the National Guard, and has been assigned to Iraq. They’re scheduled to leave for training on October 30th. He’ll have a couple months training, and then they ship them off, probably sometime in February or March at the latest. He still doesn’t know where in Iraq he’ll be assigned, but there’s a rumour flying among his unit that say they’ll be running supplies and stuff from Baghdad to Tikrit, then out west again somewhere and then back to Baghdad. He’s a bit nervous (his mother is a wreck), but his plan is to just stay low and not get caught in a humvee if he can help it.
Then yesterday, we went to Canton, Texas again for their once-a-month monster giganto market. We walked about 5 miles in a couple hours on cement. When you’re not an exercise-king, then all that walking begins to wear on you. My hips started hurting and STILL hurt right now! Anyway, Canton is a lot of fun, and has tons of interesting things to check out and buy.
What really made the trip eventful though was what happened when we were leaving Canton. We were at the exit, getting ready to turn left onto the highway and head home. We had our blinker on and there was no traffic. Right as we start to turn left, some asshat whips around us on our left (which means he went into the incoming traffic) and turns right, right in front of us! All we see though is huge, white pickup slam into the front, driver’s side headlight and bumper. The side of his truck was all punched in and there was a long dent along the length of his bed. My parents and I couldn’t believe he just did it. He acts like he is going to pull over to the side, so we turn to follow him. Suddenly, he bolts! We punch it to try and catch up with him so we can get his plate number, but he’s driving like a madman, weaving in and out of traffic. We almost caught up with him, when some fatass Isuzu driver whips out in front of us and goes 20 while rubbernecking at something on his right!! By the time dipwad finally got out of our way, we had lost the truck that hit us. We called 911 and reported what had happened. A cop showed up and made a report, so our insurance will cover the damage. He said they’re treating it as a hit and run and will be looking for anyone who fit the description we gave him.
So other than that, the weekend was kind of boring…
I had something similar to your hit and run incident happen to me about 10 years ago. I was on my way yo work, and it was about 4 AM and quite dark, but I remember squinting with everything I had to make sure I got the other guy’s license plate number. By the time the police found the guy, he was already doing major repairs to his vehicle, and was actually planning on filing charges agianst me, as soon as he could drive to the police station! Fortunately, the police found his story quite laughable, and he faced numerous charges.
Anyway, glad you are all ok, and no one got hurt.
P.S. Happy birthday to you and your Dad.
