NASA’s G5 Benchmarks

NASA has run its own benchmark tests on the new G5 towers.  They’ve compared them with older G4 systems, an Xserve and two different P4 systems.  Their results?  The G5 could match a dual 2.66 GHz P4 system, without compiler optimizations.  With compiler optimizations, it could match the newly announced dual 3.25 GHz P4 systems.

That’s pretty impressive for a first-run of the new chips.  I’m eager to see how fast they bump the speed of the G5.

The p4 computers were single processor, not dual.

I know the P4s in the test were single processor, as did NASA. You can still tell the power of a single processor with the right tests. Look at their charts. They note that the G4 and G5 results are shown for a single processsor.
