Good lord! Apple released a new line of Cinema Displays today. They’ve got anodized aluminum enclosures to match the metal look of the G5 tower and Powerbooks. A small footprint too. In fact, it’s so small, it looks like it would be unstable.
The big news, though (and I do mean BIG), is the new 30-inch HD display! This momma is massive! That would make it almost twice as big as my iMac’s display. It’s got over 4 million pixels to generate an amazing picture. It’s also got a steep price tag of $3300. In order to run this bad boy, you’re going to need the $600 NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL graphics card! The card is fast enough to run two 30-inchers though.
The low-end display is the 20-inch starting at $1300. That seems awfully high for a low-end display. This will cut out a lot of people who just don’t have the money for one of these displays, like myself.
I have a 20” Cinema display that I use for movies and design work, but after seeing that 30” display I knew that I simply had to have it. Unfortunately, it looks like it is going to require a G5 desktop. I am not willing to give up portability, so I guess I will just have to live in anguish over what might have been.
I need that 30” display bad. I want that 30” display bad. Final Cut Pro just takes up so desktop space, that right now, I am running a 22” cinema display and a 19” Sony flat panel side by side. Yup, the 30” will take care of that, no problem.
And it looks so good too. Mmmmmm.
