Thanks to my cousin, I’ve been able to play around with the latest seed of Panther. It is MUCH better than the previous release of Panther. Much more stable and now supports CD/DVD burning, which was a big problem with the last one. There’s lots of nice little touches here and there that really make Panther stand out. It’s a very highly polished and refined OS now. Very professional looking.
Don’t get me wrong, this release has its problems too… one of which could be a showstopper. I can’t get any Adobe apps to work with it. I own Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Acrobat, and they all ran fine in the last release of Panther. For some reason, whenever I try to install them, they crash the Finder. Their installers are made with Installer VISE, so I’m thinking that could be the source of the problem. I’ve even tried copying the installed applications from my Powerbook running Jaguar, but that doesn’t work either.
In terms of the apps that come with it, my favorite is definitely the new version of Mail. It’s so much better than the first few versions, it’s like a different program. I’ve been using it less than 24 hours, and it’s already doing a better job blocking spam than Entourage ever did. The interface seems more clean. It has more features. Everything is nice. I will be using Mail as my default email app from now on.
I’ve now learned there’s an even newer seed that’s just been released. It seems that Apple is working quickly to get Panther as polished as it can before public release. Here you go, Frederik. I’ve posted a few screenshots:
Oh please please, give us some screenshots!!
