Thursday afternoon, I decided I would go to the bank and deposit a check. When I got there, one of the cashiers asked me if I wanted a cat. I told her we didn’t need another cat because the last time we brought one home, it got chased off by our tomcat. And our other cat is nearly 20 years old and EXTREMELY crotchety.
One of the other cashiers was talking to another customer and mentioned that it wasn’t a full-grown cat, but rather a kitten that was very underfed. It had wandered up behind the back of the bank looking for food and had been there for a while. No one wanted it. When I heard that it was a kitten, then I became interested. Our tom won’t chase off a kitten. I then told the cashier I’d take a look at it, and all the cashiers got excited and were offering to help me get her home. Apparently they were hoping some softy like me would come along. When they brought me out back, there was this tiny, skinny, pathetic looking little kitten. As soon as it saw me, it came running up meowing for food. There was no way I could’ve said no. So the ladies at the bank gave me a box to put her in and I drove her home.
When I got her home, sure enough our tom was the first one to “greet” her. He ran up and sniffed her from head to toe. I guess he approves of her because he’s left her alone. She devoured a small bowl of cat food I gave her, and made herself at home.
We bring her inside the house every now and then to let my dogs get used to her. They’re not sure what to do with her. Sometimes they’ll lick her and sometimes they snap at her. I keep a close eye on them though, and they know they’re not supposed to hurt her. They’re also extremely jealous of her new toys. Whenever she’s playing with them, they’ll try to sneak in and steal them from her. They’re worse than kids! I think they’ll get used to her though.
If cats could talk, I believe this one would say, “JACKPOT!”
It’s good to know that my animal saving ways have rubbed off on you guys. If it were a competition, I do believe I would have a good 20 animal lead. Hah-hah…I just can’t help myself! They’re so cute and they all needed help, how could I turn them down?
Good job, Chris. She’s a cutie. Give her lots of kisses for me.
