Quicksilver

I’ve used LaunchBar for a looong time.  I bought it within two minutes of first trying it.  I found myself getting frustrated if I was on someone else’s computer and they didn’t have it installed.  I never, ever thought I’d find another app to replace it.

I was wrong.

There’s a new keyboard launcher in town, and it’s called Quicksilver.  Quicksilver does what LaunchBar does, but does it better.  And it does other things too, like a multi-clipboard viewer, a storage shelf, etc.  While LaunchBar has one look (a drop-down window under the menu bar), Quicksilver has three choices: window, menu and bezel.  Bezel is my favorite because it looks like the default app switcher and volume controls in OS X.

If you use LaunchBar, take my advice and try out Quicksilver.  I found Dan Dickinson’s tutorial to be helpful while first trying out Quicksilver.  You’ll be up and running in only a couple minutes.

I’ve actually dropped LaunchBar, and I won’t be looking back.  Oh, and did I mention it was free?
