Well, I’ve tried everything I know, but Safari is STILL too slow. On top of that, it started really freaking out earlier, choking the system, making everything run very slow. When I was finally able to kill a bunch of hung processes, the system went back to normal. All I was doing was trying to open three links from A List Apart. It would crash and hang the Dock and Finder and eventually bog the whole system down.
Sooo… I have now switched to Mozilla. I noticed in OS X 10.3, the only way to assign your default browser is to open Safari and go to the General Preferences tab. What’s up with that? The Internet preference pane is no longer available in Panther. Bad move, Apple.
I’m not completely convinced it’s solely Safari crapping things out. I think some other apps could be coming into play. I use a shareware app called Synergy, which controls iTunes from the menu bar. It’s a nice app, but I’m beginning to suspect it’s a source of problems too. So I’ve disabled it. I’ve also got Kensington Mouseworks running in the background. Perhaps that could be disagreeing with Safari somehow?
Anyway, we’ll see if this fixes things.
Have you considered the possibilty of “pilot error”?
Just kidding… but I just can’t seem to think what it is that is causing those problems.
