Yesterday was kind of a surprise for me. For a long time I have been wanting to get a Dachshund. I just never had enough money to spare to get one. Well yesterday, my sister’s housemate Rebekah, took their puppy to the vet to get it checked out. While she was there, a lady approached her and asked her if she wanted another dog. Rebekah decided she wanted it, so the lady asked her to come over to her house and pick it up. When she got their, she noticed the lady already had several dogs. The lady picked up a mini-Dachshund named Shorty, and gave it to her. She said he was about 1 year old, a good dog, but she didn’t have room for him.
So Rebekah took him back to their place. They have a small place and already have a dog, so my sister told Rebekah they couldn’t keep him. She then remembered that I had wanted one, so she called me and told me about him. I asked her to bring him over so I could check him out and see if he’d fit in with the family and rest of the animals.
He fits in. Not perfectly, but well enough. Of course, the cats don’t like him and he’s already got his butt kicked by two of them. Our other dog is quickly getting used to him as well. He’s got a great personality and is a lot of fun to play with. So I decided to keep him!
Last night, he wanted to sleep in the bed with me, but I wouldn’t let him. We had a little “Battle of the Wills” for about 10 minutes. I had made up a bed for him beside my own, and pointed him to it. He sat there, staring me down. I sat in bed, staring him down. After about 5 minutes, he grunted and laid down in his own bed.
So it looks like he’s going to be a good addition to the household. I’m sure there’ll be more posts in the future about the things he does.
Cute.
