I finally broke down and bought a pair of Shure E2c earphones from Amazon. They’re priced around $75 at Amazon versus $110+ direct from Shure.
The earphones that come with the iPod suck donkeys. I was given a decent set of Sony earphones for Christmas, but made the mistake of leaving them down on the ground. Tinker, one of my two dogs, decided they looked like a great toy and proceeded to chew them into several pieces. I was not happy about that.
Since then I’ve been living with the poor sound quality and fit of the included earphones. I recently got my five referrals approved at freeiPods.com and will be getting one of the new color iPods. I’m selling my other iPod to my friend, so I decided to splurge a little and get some good earphones.
Needless to say, I won’t be leaving these anywhere near the floor or within easy reach of a certain dog.
July 28: I received my earphones this morning and tried them out. All I have to say is, “Wow!” These are amazing! They sound better than my computer, which sounds pretty nice with the Pro speakers and iSub subwoofer. I was a little worried about people saying the bass response was too low with these, but I think they’re perfect! I’m hearing things in my music I didn’t know was there. The quality is very good on everything. The cord is heavy duty and feels sturdy. Right now, I’m using the plastic tips, but I may try the foam ones out later. The carrying case is a thing of beauty and utility. All in all, I’m very happy with these so far.
Thanks for the tip!
By the way, I just found Joi Ito’s post on E2c’s. He loves them, and apparently a LOT of other people do too.
I own a pair of these and they’re great. Remember to clean them regularly, though.
