“Slammer” Slows The Web Down

Early this morning there was a major hit by a computer “worm” similar to the Code Red worm in the summer of 2001.  The worm was called “slammer” or “SQ hell” by some security experts.  The worm generated so much traffic, that it slowed parts of the Internet to a crawl.  South Korea was especially hit hard.  Security experts said that corporate users would be the bardest hit because the worm takes advantage of a known security hole in Microshaft’s SQL Server 2000.  The hole was discovered last year, and Microshaft released a patch to fix it, but no one knew how many computers had updated their servers.  Apparently the systems that were hit hard are recovering now.

This is why I think Micro$oft will be the doom of the computer world.  They release code with security holes bigger than Mammoth Cave.
