Some Site Info

Here’s some interesting information about traffic to my site…

According to my site stats supplied by Urchin, I have 1,265 people visiting the site per day.  That’s not hits or pageviews, that’s individual sessions.  I’m transferring 141 MB of information per day.  That’s not a whole lot when compared to the big leagues of the blogworld, but it’s a whole lot more people visiting than I would’ve ever imagined when I first started.

This last week, I had 8,860 visitors.  Each visitor viewed about 8 pages per visit.  Each person stayed for around 4 minutes.  Now either the people who read my site are very fast readers, or they’re clicking around trying to find something.  I doubt I attract speed readers, so people are apparently not reading everything on those 8 pages they’re viewing.  How can I keep people around longer?  Besides having lots of pics of naked women.  Better writing and more interesting topics are obvious choices.  Maybe more specific topics should be covered like Mac and Linux stuff?  Anyone care to share their thoughts on this?

My most popular entry was The Dixie Chicks Pose Nude.  It was viewed 883 times.  I’m not sure why that’s such a big draw.  You can’t see anything you wouldn’t see if they were wearing bikinis.

My most popular category is Family.  143 people checked it out.

I do have some devoted fans though.  That or they’re really bored and have nothing better to do than read about me.  There were 123 people who stuck around the site for longer than half an hour.  I’m not sure who those people are, but I’m glad they find my site so interesting.

The #1 search term for the week is “nude” with 677 hits.  People checking out the Dixie Chicks, I’m sure.  #2 was “Chip Foose” at 107 hits.  They’re most likely heading to either my dream post of Chip redoing my car or the newer post where I gush about Chip’s amazing hot rods.  What I find really odd is the number of people who post comments directed at Chip on the older post.  I’m not sure why people do this.  I seriously doubt Chip has ever seen my site.

Obviously most people come to my site from the States, but there were also 150 people from Germany who showed up.  83 Canadians, 78 Brits and 77 Aussies also stopped by.  Even the Dutch showed up 63 times.

Apparently there are still a lot of clueless browser users out there.  Internet Exploder users accounted for 63% of all traffic.  Mozilla and its siblings accounted for 17%, and Safari users were 3%.  It’s good to see more people are using better browsers like Mozilla and especially Firefox.

Windoze users accounted for 70% of all traffic.  Mac users a mere 7% and Linux users a miniscule 2%.

I’m not sure if anyone else found this as interesting as I did, but I figured it would be good to post anyway.  Then I can compare the numbers later on and see if I’m attracting or scaring away people.

The accidental sex terms always drive the most traffic. I once posted a sotry that had the words boob and junkie in it. My blog was then flooded with people looking for nude pictures. I’ve learned my lesson.

63% is really low for IE. It is still over 90% in the mainstream market. That says a lot — though what it actually says is up for grabs. Mozilla users gravitate towards web design sites? Your constant putdowns of IE are actually getting to your readers, and they are deciding to switch?

I’m not exactly sure why IE is that low. I would like to think my constant putdowns of IE and praises of Firefox and Safari were influencing my readers, but I doubt it.

I have influenced people to switch to Firefox though. It doesn’t take much. Just show them tabbed browsing, built-in pop-up blocking and explain how it’s a safer browser in general and people are sold.
