Space Shuttle Columbia

Unfortunately, as I was waking up this morning, I heard on the news that the Space Shuttle Columbia had broken up over Texas, a couple hours drive away from where I live.  Pieces of the shuttle have landed in Nacogdoches, which is directly south of me.  It’s kind of unnerving, since this is similar to the way I heard about 9/11.  When I woke up that morning, my sister came in all freaked out telling me the World Trace Center had been hit by a plane.  I got a sick feeling in my stomach then, and I got one this morning too.  The more I read, though, the more it seems like terrorism was just about impossible because of their altitude of over 200,000 feet at the time of the accident.  Plus, they were travelling at over Mach 18.

Whatever the cause, my sympathies go out to the families of the astronauts.

Glenn Reynolds points to a radar image of the debris field.

A loop of the debris field from NOAA‘s site.

The asswipes in the Iraqi government are calling the shuttle disaster “God’s vengeance”.

A Small Victory points to some more asswipes in the Democratic party who are saying this is a conspiracy by Bush to make America look to him as a father.  How can someone become so eaten up with rage and bitterness?  It’s beyond me.  It only shows the character of so many in the Democratic party, and I think THAT’s the main reason the Dems are losing the interest of the nation.

ANOTHER asswipe who works for the CBC was interviewing writer Stephen Sawyer.  The interviewer asked Mr. Sawyer if he thought the shuttle disaster was caused by American “arrogance”!  Good grief!  What is going on with these people?!  If you want to let the CBC know how you feel, you can reach them here.

oh, my god …

well, that idiot is not speaking for my democratic leanings.

there is a tendency, that we’ve seen on the ‘net for a long time (even before weblogs; think usenet) to post an outrageous comment, just for effect. for popularity. that’s what i’d chalk this up to.

but i don’t forgive it. ‘democratic underground’ is one site i’ve never visited before. doubt i’ll ever go there again.

speaking of which, you know i’m not especially fond of president bush. when he starts quoting scripture, i usually get a twitch. but his statement this morning hit me just about right. i sincerely hope dems won’t be tarring him for excessive religiousity.

i wouldn’t like that very much. and i will remember who says it … right up until elections.
