Switcher’s remorse?

As far as I can tell, this Salon article about an Apple switcher who wants to go back is a joke.  If it isn’t, then the writer doesn’t know what the heck she’s talking about.

OS X doesn’t give you weird -7531 errors.  In fact, I’ve been using OS X for 15 months and it’s locked up on me once because I was seriously messing with the system.  I have NEVER had number errors or a frozen system.

She also laments the loss of the floppy on a Mac.  A floppy?!  Welcome to the modern age!  Floppies only hold 1.4 MB which is nothing.  You can send and store that information through email.  I haven’t needed a floppy in well over 2 years.

She claims to use the Disk Utility application all the time.  If so, I’m interested to see how someone could break their system so easily.  Maybe she tried using the SuperDrive tray as a cupholder?

Then she moves on to say she can’t figure out the Apple command key on her keyboard.  Surely this is a joke.  Your IQ must be 2 to not understand it.  She laments the loss of her page up and page down buttons, which I’m looking at while I’m typing this.  And she cries about not having a two button mouse, which I also am using.  This article is SO factually wrong and misleading, I can only imagine this was written as a joke about the Apple switch campaign.

i’m hoping jaguar will smooth out some of the early home adopter problems, really. then we won’t have to suffer through dumb articles.

you’d be surprised, though, how many ‘average’ home users get confused about the ‘apple/command’ key … one of my os x people couldn’t even figure out how to open the imac’s cd-rom drawer. the icon on the key just isn’t dayglo orange and six inches across, i guess.

i find it’s scary that i just had to even write that last sentence …

Jaguar is MUCH better than 10.1.x. Much more polished, subtle and powerful. I don’t think I could go back to an older version of X and I know for SURE I couldn’t go back to 9.x. I haven’t used 9 in several months.

I am very surprised that people can’t understand the command key. It’s similar in functionality to the Windoze key, but more powerful, in my opinion. But, people come in all flavors, so there will always be a group who won’t understand something.

A 6 inch dayglo orange button would solve that CD problem. I could make millions by creating a USB peripheral that was just a huge CD eject button for people like that! Great idea, Garret!
