Thank God for Korea!

Whew!!  The US almost didn’t make it with their lame performance against Poland.  Poland slaughtered the US 3-1, but we made it into the Round of 16 because Korea beat Portugal 1-0.  I was chatting with a friend from Korea the other day, and told him that I thought Korea could beat Portugal.  He didn’t think they could.  I’m very glad I was right.

So, it looks like the US will play old rivals Mexico in our match in the round of 16.  We’ve beaten them before, so we need to go into the match with confidence.  Mexico is looking really strong, but we can still beat them.

Korea will play Italy in their match.  I really hope they can beat Italy.  It would be great for Korean football, for their sporting psyche (since they were so upset about the speed skating deal with Ono in the Olympics) and will knock the last arrogant “favorite” out of the race.
